We were really excited to find a little traditional tea room whilst in Rye. On arrival we got grimaced at and on asking about high chairs were advised they didn’t have any. That was fine as our two year old sits in his buggy or on a chair just fine. We sat at a table but it was a bit warm by the radiator so we moved, whilst another couple walked in (whom equally made us feel unwanted and at one stage we thought they were going to leave before ordering). Our son sat so nicely and played quietly and we ordered - much to the annoyance of the guy serving us. The tea and coffee were ok, the scone was delightful. The young lad who served us the food and drinks was a little more interested in customer service, as was the guy who bought us the bill (perhaps more excited to get rid of us at that stage?) Really wished rather than being made to feel uncomfortable, you’d of just told us you didn’t want us there. Perhaps you’ve bad experiences with kids, but ours was perfectly behaved. We’ve never drank so quick and scoffed a snack so quick. So all in all, on behalf of the people working there, don’t take kids and perhaps you’ll...
Read moreWe cannot understand the 5 star reviews here. There is nothing special about this tea house. Having had many afternoon teas around England, this was definitely our worst experience. The staff were grumpy and hardly welcoming, the full afternoon tea at £16 per person was so basic that it didn't deserve the title. No choice of tea, just a single pot for two of the cheapest house tea, a single sandwich from a choice of only 4 dull fillings - ours consisted of 2 slices of basic pre buttered bread with a slice of grizzly ham, a warm scone with jam and clotted cream (the one nice element), and a large slice of dry cake all literally crammed onto a single plate which was just dumped on our table. Absolutely no atmosphere, no refinement, no service, no presentation and no sense of having a special treat, as we've experienced everywhere else. To round it off, when we looked at the menu, buying the items individually would have been cheaper at less than £13! Plus we would have probably got seperate plates for each item. One star for the scone, zero for...

We have waited for 20mins to be seated on a Saturday afternoon ard 3pm.
We were seated outside but did not expect they do not clean the table. My white shirt helped to clean when my arms touched the desk....You can see the tea tint on the table. There also spider web on the fence near us. (you can see it from the background) I think at lease the table area needs to be clean?🤢
Luckily, the scones and sandwiches are amazing as expected. The scones were a bit crispy outside with a bit warmth. I like it with their jam!
When I drink the tea, I saw the dish under the cup is dirty. It will not touch my mouth directly but I feel bad to see it when I imagine all utensils are not clean🤢🤮
Scones were good. But I couldn't enjoy it very much as the table was dirty and crowded.
However, I do appreciate the cleanliness of the toilet. At least it looks cleaner...
