My family have recently moved to the area which is a lovely little town however this shop was awful. We bought some liquorice which when tasted after buying was awful. We returned and asked if there may be an issue with the batch. The woman explained the batch was new and so would not have anything wrong with it. I asked to see the container which it came from to look at ingredients and she refused and said the container had already been washed and was out the back. Strange for a batch of sweets which she claimed were fresh off the shelf. I asked if she would mind if we changed the sweets which she very rudely declined. Not allowing a customer to check ingredients of a product in my opinion is against trading standards! We will certainly not be returning and we will be telling any friends and family that visit the area not to go to this shop! Terrible customer service and the lady was extremely rude and hostile. Having read the previous reviews i can see I am not alone with how myself & family were treated! I wouldn’t even give this business a star if the...
Read moreA great old Sweet shop
One of the corner stones of every English country town or village is its sweet shop. In Rye, you’ll find this hidden gem along the high street.
When I first went in, I was a little taken a back by the boat display. One of the first things that came to mind was the good ship lollipop. This boat, however, was stocked to the gills with an assortment of delectable goodies. I’d recommend that you don’t ask the shop keeper (who was kind and friendly) if the vessel can still sail. Seeing what the shop had to offer, I was able to explore to my heats content. I even found a few sweets you’d only get in the states and I just blown away by the variety available. I’d defiantly recommend for anyone passing through that you give this shop a visit as the new management is very helpful and can offer fantastic suggestions for any tourist with a desire for...
Read moreAwful customer service! I selected the products I wished to buy and said hello to the eldey woman at the till but she just glared at me (it wasn't long after I saw a tiny hand written note that says not to touch the sweet pots). Before weighing out my choice she took a spray bottle and squirted the lid 4 times and cleaned it as if to suggest I was some kind of diseased & contagious hospital patient all the while the unknown chemical being used was back splashing onto me and my 6 month old baby. She didn't thank us for our custom nor say goodbye despite me saying so. We had to return to the shop as our baby dropped his toy, when my partner re-entered the shop the same woman gave her a filthy look.
I'll be avoiding this shop in future and will tell family and friends to do the same.. I've heard much better things about the sweet shop up the road... I guess this shop doesn't want to attract...
