Pick A Bap — Restaurant in Rushmoor

So...

When I first ate here, I was disappointed. I was homesick when I first came to Farnborough so I was ecstatic to learn that there were a multitude of East Asian food places in the area, including Pick A Bap. They carried my favorite Korean dish: Beef Bulgogi.

So I had the beef bulgogi at Pick A Bap and...it was not beef bulgogi. It was grainy and didn't have any depth of flavor that, to me, characterises beef bulgogi. I have eaten beef bulgogi in Seoul, Vancouver (large Korean population), and Seattle (large Korean population) -- Pick A Bap didn't do it like it's done in those cities. The other nearby East Asian fast serve places didn't do beef bulgogi any better. I realized Pick a Bap did it the British way. Oh well, I knew not to go back.

HOWEVER

They went through a refurb of the restaurant and menu a few months back. Each bowl now comes with rice, a small salad and glass noodles, plus your protein(s) and sauces of choice. Most items are £6.95-8.95, which is a great price for the foods they are making now. These changes were VERY smart. No other local place does a bowl like this, so it's a major reason I love going here now. My partner goes once a week and gets a Korean Fried Chicken every time. I usually get the friend tofu when I join. The whole deal in taste and price is better than similar offers in the area. The staff are also seem to happier since the refurb, though I'm not sure what led to that.

If you're in the area and craving East Asian, Pick A Bap is worth a stop.

I haven't tried the beef bulgogi again but will update this review...

I've never eaten here before and didn't know what to order. The lady behind the counter was very helpful and let me try a tiny bit of each meat dish. I am glad she did as the spicy beef was SPICY (I like hot food, but this had a surprisingly good kick)!

I had a combo bap that included spicy beef and sour chicken, both of which were excellent. The rice noodles, cabbage and rice that came with it were also tasty, and together this was a hearty feed! More than enough to satisfy any level of hunger, I'll be coming back next time I visit Farnborough!

I hadn’t read the reviews before coming here, but personally unsure why it’s rated 4.8.

We tried the spicy tofu, sweet and spicy chicken and spicy pork bulgogi.

The spicy tofu was not spicy, super bland, and not enjoyable at all sadly. The sweet and spicy chicken flavour was okay, but again, not spicy and bad bits of chicken. The bulgogi was grey tasteless and the spice was from handfuls of chillis and seeds chucked in. The rice was fine.
