The Coal & Cotton is located in the very heart of Boothstown, Greater Manchester. As you enter the venue, you are welcomed by the magnificent and impressive Gin distillery which is used to create 'our' very own Boothstown Gin.
The atmosphere is cozy, warm and vibrant which is intensified even further due to the incredible hospitality provided by the management and staff.
The Coal & Cotton offers a varied menu of deliciously mouth-watering starters, mains and desserts, seemingly designed to accommodate many tastes including for both youngsters and adults alike. My personal favorite dish is the Mussels Mariniere to start followed by the 10oz Rib Eye steak which is always cooked to perfection.
Due to my work, I'm fortunate enough to be able to eat out a lot, mainly in London and can hand on heart say that the food I have had the pleasure to sample at the Coal & Cotton is on par with - if not better than some of the cuisine I have tried at renowned, quality restaurants in the City and at a fraction of the cost.
I have tried most other dishes on the menu too, all of which were fresh with a home-made feel and put together with what tastes like very high quality produce.
But what really sets this place above the rest is the welcome towards custom of all types - including our furry four legged friends. We also have a new born baby to contend and as inexperienced newbies when it comes to parenting and venturing out, the staff have been incredibly accommodating providing extra space where required but more so just welcoming in general putting those crying baby anxieties as ease!
Yes its busy, yes its loud and vibrant at the weekend and yes you wont always be able to get a table without a reservation however whilst it seems some people like to criticize this, I personally see this as a positive thing which says a lot about the place and the standards that they aspire to.
I have met the owner James who is often seen getting stuck in with the rest of the team on a very busy Saturday night which says a lot about his passion. Both he and the management team are full of warmth and thoughtful of their guests and reading through some of the reviews on here, they're always happy hear all types of experiences both positive, negative and will endeavour to make changes where required.
Also a special mention for 'Serena' (I think this name may be wrong), who really does go above and beyond to provide an exceptional level of service.
As for the Gin menu - where do I even start!
Thanks for bringing this to...
Read moreCame here after seeing various comments on a Facebook post saying how great it is. Unfortunately it didn't meet expectations. So to start Wasn't impressed that I had to give credit card details just to book a table along with all my details, but I did albeit very strange, didn't pat with that card so they now have details they didn't need stored on a device somewhere. Left a comment when booking a table, but the guy booking us in was very straight to business, no personal touch just..name..ok..table..go..I did try myself to make a bit of an interaction but nothing..dead pan. A young lady lead us to our table number 25. She was lovely and attentive throughout our visit so would get a 5 star for her. The table was tiny, 500x500 square i think, in a corner next to a solid tiled wall so no elbow room. There was a loud speaker above my head playing some kind of loud music but all I heard was bass beats. This was also kind centre opposite the bar so was busy with people and the noise of people was deafening. I imagine there must be better tables you may call cosy but there was nothing cosy other than some nice lights..the noise would be equivalent to the Stretford end after united scored. The food was nice, but at the price mark there was nothing special but it was very nice.
Summing up Food was very nice but probably a little over priced Very nice decor and lighting (I'm guessing this is why they say it's cosy) The waiting staff was great Felt very much focused on money making more than customer focused. Not great for a nice cosy meal for 2. But would be a great night for groups or families. I would go again and give it another chance, it could be the seating position amplified the people noise etc but I would request a quiet table next time.. This is an honest personal review...nothing more or less..well worth a visit to give it a go yourself
Overall this visit from me gets a 4 out of 10 Maybe next time it'll be much higher but can only judge on how it...
Read moreWe visited recently and, while the venue itself is lovely, there were a few issues that made the experience less smooth than it could have been.
Firstly, the disabled parking situation was disappointing. There were no designated spaces left, and only one car actually displayed a disabled badge. When I raised this with the man at the front desk, he said they rely on people’s conscience, but I don’t understand the point of having disabled bays if they aren’t monitored or enforced. Businesses are required under the Equality Act to make reasonable adjustments for disabled customers, and having parking spaces that aren’t protected from misuse doesn’t really achieve that. This meant I had to get my mother out in the middle of the car park and into her wheelchair, which wasn’t ideal or safe.
Inside, the team had taken note of my request for a wheelchair-accessible table, which I appreciated. However, the table was in the middle of the walkway to the outside area. As breakfast was cooked on the BBQ outside, the door was constantly opening, so we were right in the draft and in the path of staff carrying food in. It didn’t feel like there were any alternative spots.
The food itself was good; mine was slightly cold but still tasty. Service could have been more attentive: we weren’t asked if we wanted another drink and had to flag someone down, and it took a while for our plates to be cleared after we’d finished.
Overall, Cole & Cotton is a nice place with good food. Still, the lack of enforcement of disabled parking feels like a tick-box exercise rather than meaningful accessibility, and staff attentiveness could be improved. I would go again to see if things...
