Okay…
Heard a lot of good things and my friend had recommended this place. They are doing a Black Friday offer, so decided to take advantage of it.
The offer is £9.90 (comes with a main and a drink; if you want to add a side, there is an additional £2 charge).
Food arrived fairly quickly but we are the only customers there at that time. It’s very cold in there in the evening, staff had been very kind and allowed us to swap seat near the radiator (but oh my days, still freezing!)
I had the prawn laksa with longan drink, and kaya toast.
Longan drink was lovely, lots of longan in there too. Just the right sweetness!
Kaya toast was a big let down, wasn’t aware there was a difference to normal priced item versus Black Friday promo; despite the menu state, what we thought, the same name. Normal priced item is a French toast, but the offer is not a French toast, but just your typical toast.
As you can see in the photo, £2 was for half a slice of bread, I wasn’t impressed with this and felt conned.
I feel like you could probably get more than half a slice of toast with £2 in London, but I may be wrong since inflation hits hard.
The laksa! Noodles and everything was well cooked, despite looking like a lot of prawns in there, I think they’ve been thinly sliced so it’s not actually that many. I find the curry soup quite bland and I couldn’t find the “kick” from a typical Malaysian curry laksa would have. I would say it was VERY mild, it wasn’t even a “standard” spicy. Portion size was okay. You can get better tasting and bigger portion for similar price in Chinatown.
As with most restaurants these days, unsure why they’re adding “optional” 10% service charge to the bill, if it’s optional, it shouldn’t be added beforehand, surely? But we have opted out of it.
There is street parking available around the area, so it’s quite convenient. However, the street can get a bit busy.
The painting in the shop is also amazing, I love every bit of it! It’s so adorable.
Will I visit again? Probably not. It is quite costly, as you can see from the “£2 side dish”.
I also won’t recommend my friends this place 🙈 I guess maybe if you are paying for full priced items, they will taste better, judging from mostly...
Read moreWent on 1:30pm on a Sunday, the place is very spacious and not so busy. We've ordered quite a lot of food and it was definitely too much for two people Bak Kut Teh - portion for one but it was huge! One ribs and a few pieces of pork belly, it comes with rice and the soup is a real deal! Fish & Noodle: soup is amazing again! My friend ordered it and she loves it! One thing to mention is that we would probably prefer the fish not to be fried. Chicken Laksa - noodle is a mix of two types which is the original so it's nice! Can taste of prawn from the broth👍 Satay Pork Skewer: the meat is a little dry and the satay sauce doesn't have any taste, one thing that we didn't recommend but we ordered as it's on promotion just £3.3 for three Coconut Squid Fritter: thought it's just standard fried squid but it does have coconut aroma which takes it to another level, huge portion drink - Tik Tarik and Nanyang Coffee, both are good
The staff were so attentive and helped us to pack everything with extra sauces! Would...
Read moreI love Malaysian food and was really excited to see a new restaurant in my neighborhood. One of staff members told me it's authentic Malaysian food when I was looking at the menu outside.
I ordered a chicken laksa, my favourite Malay dish and it turned out to be a disappointment, the worst laksa out of all Malaysian restaurants I've tried in Manchester.
Broth lacked depth, there wasn't enough coconut cream/milk and spices. I got two kinds of noodles thinner and thicker which made no sense and chicken was crispy and deep fried, really oily and didn't compliment the dish well.
Also, asked for tap water and received a cup of warm water, something I never got before and didn't like it.
On top of it, I was charged a 10% service fee and nobody mentioned I would pay it..
If you crave Malaysian food go to Chinatown or even better to Chorlton. It's miles...
