After hearing hype from friends about BMF we thought we would give it a shot. The menu attracted us with the Whitecastle reference. But imagine our disappointment when we arrive to a pre-booked table on a Saturday night and BMF claims to have run out of the Harold & Kumar 10 sliders order. This was poor. I decided to go for the BMF challenge burger which was huge! BMF stated there was a prize, but anything other than a T-shirt and a wall of fame photo is a missed opportunity! The waitress wasn't exactly sure what the prize was, she said she thought it was getting the meal for free.
Where I think BMF is lacking is using more of their own ingredients rather than outsourcing from places that normal consumers can also buy from. The sausage and turkey rashers are the bog standard supermarket variety and carry very little flavour. You get 2 onion rings on top and I couldn't find any fried mushrooms in the burger. I must say though, getting BMF's beef chilli with cheese on the fries is a must. Too many restaurants do not put enough sauce with their chilli when serving with fries, but BMF's are spot on. My brother ordered a 5 patty burger which carried the same patties as found in any local chippy. The hand formed patties I had in the challenge burger were nicely flavoured though, but they would definitely benefit from being split into thinner patties to maximise the juiciness and warmth of the meat, as a burger of this size is definitely going to get too cold to eat well before you've finished it. The BMF record is 5m36s. It took me around the 12m mark to eat it at a pace that was comfortable. If that much food can stay warm over the 10min mark, let me know where to go!
The wing starters were fantastic, with the coating and sauces being spot on. The quesadillas were excellent too. Milkshakes were good but I'm still not understanding restaurant's serving a drink in a jam jar! For a place called Big Man's Food drinks should be in tall glasses, not something that I get my jam out of. The cookie dough we had for dessert was a little oily and underdone, but the real let down was there being no hot drinks. When I asked the waiter if they served coffee he directed me towards the McDonald's next door. Obviously I brought back hot drinks to have with the cookie dough. Which after the amount of food we demolished was really needed.
Not sure if we will return to BMF, maybe if the jam jars and the patties change then we...
Read moreA nice meal out earlier. I had Ferrero Rocher flavoured milkshake & it tasted exactly like them. Almost like they had taken ice-cream, a dash of milk & cream with Ferrero Rocher chocolates & blended them together.
You could tell the pizza dough was made on site - although I suspected it came too fast to be made after we ordered. I think I would prefer them to have some ready in order to save the customer a wait so that was fine with me.
I had The Champ burger & it was nice. The bottom piece of bread got soggy & I bit the stick a few times but the overall taste was of OK seasoned burger & gherkin/pickle. The fries were better than the chips IMO. & the Peri Peri salt was yummy.
I found it slightly strange that I booked a table for two (although there was clearly no need) & we were put right in front of the TV. If I was booking it for a date or wine, dine & 34.5 X 2, then I wouldn't want to be there. Unless that's how millennials get through dates when their phones are dead? I would have preferred a booth with comfier seats & more privacy. You wouldn't take anybody there to wine & dine though as they obviously don't have an alcohol licence. There are non-alcoholic options, for the non-alcoholic of us though 😂 Plus the missus said upon arrival "It's clearly a masculine place for men, with all the superheros & posters about." Plenty of women are into that nowadays though, apparently.
The final plus was that they offer delivery to the local area & the staff were all very friendly...
In fact, thinking about that - the final negative would be that we were asked if we were ok/food was satisfactory 3 times whilst eating. It mildly annoys me when this happens once but I understand it's the norm. Three times either suggests over-eagerness or lack of communication within the staff.
I will return though, I enjoyed it, was full at the end & it was less expensive than I...
Read more1st visit at big mans food yesterday, to be honest will be the last. The restaurant was a recommendation, and going by what my friend and I had, this had been a waste of money and stomach space. We decided to place an order for the commando burger , and this should have come with a warning suggesting you need a stomach of a commando to digest this burger. When the order had been taken there had been no request as to how the burger is to be cooked , and when served looked aesthetically pleasing but both patties had been overcooked pretty much burnt to a cinder and dry. Therefore feeling like rubber when chewing on it and very difficult to swallow. Had we not been hungry having not eaten anything in the day , this would most definitely had been returned. The young lady seving us , came to check on our meal when it had been completed, giving very little room to discuss our disappointment during it. However having mentioned our disappointment the waitress had suggested she will mention this to the cook. But no one came to check after these comments, as to what they could have done to improve. A suggestion would Be when cooking red meat please do not over cook it as it renders the meat tasteless and a waste of good meat. Another recommendation would be to ask how the individual would prefer their meat cooked. Overall one I would not recommend neither be revisiting anytime soon. Poorly managed establishment , and unable to address issues which are of concern...
