Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Sandwell

Admittedly, it was busy when we visited, but with four staff on, all going at snail's pace, it was no wonder the queue was out of the door. Inside, the tables were less than half full, but the majority of them needed clearing and cleaning. We had to ask a member of staff to clear a table for us, which he did quickly and made a good job of it.

When we did get served, there was no apology for the wait time. When we visited there was a lot of standing around and chatting amongst the staff, something another reviewer noted. However, when we were served, the staff were friendly.

However, someone needs to allocate a few minutes to clean the rest of the cafe: the floors were dirty and covered in cake crumbs, and the floor behind the counter was appalling, with a whole cake dropped and not picked up, paper waste and overflowing bins.

We also heard someone come out of the toilet commenting there was no toilet roll left, suggesting the toilets are not checked and cleaned regularly.

The cakes were lovely, but the coffees (a mocha and a cappuccino) were ok, but a bit on the weak / thin side.

Overall, a disappointing experience. I don't have the biggest of disposable incomes, so to have wasted money on this was not good. Hopefully these reviews are read...

I am a very regular user of this Costa. However tonight I observed a few things which I wasn't so impressed with. Whilst waiting for my drink inside I observed lots of flies buzzing around. I though as the weather was very cold there wouldn't be many flies around. And it wasn't just one or two it was very noticeable with then crawling over the cups and countertops. Even more concerning was thst they were crawling over the cakes. I asked the lady serving me. Why are there so many flies?. She said no one new why there were so many. Ok I said so can you tell me why you have not covered up your exposed food. To which I she gave me a filthy look and said nothing. Now I know basic food standards and why they might have flies. Perhaps you need to look at your cleaning practises ??. Maybe cover your food.? Maybe not be rude to customers? Then the table we sat put looked like it hadn't been cleaned all afternoon. The flies were landing on us and at one point we had to swipe them away. Not the standard I am used to....

Very poor service received today. I went instore and not through drive thru. Granted they were extremely busy as it was peak time. But not enough staff behind the counter. And no hint of a managerial presence. If there was a manager present they were ineffective at running the staff as no one seemed to know how to deal with the amount of customers. My orders were incorrectly made, when remade I was told it would be brought over to me. It wasn't it was left standing on the counter cold. It was then incorrectly remade but by then we were so fed up my partner drunk his lukewarm cappuccino anyway. The state behind the counter was messy no hint of disinfectant, just blue dish cloths being used to clean the stencils- also used to clean the counter. !!! I usually go to Costa and receive excellent service and have been to several other branches and been very satisfied. But this was a shambles. Sort it out Costa this...
