Lovely pint of Coors and a "Bips world " takeaway curry. Only had 30 mins to spare on a busy, busy Sunday. You must find time for beer, it's the law. Alas, the law I did obey! £3.50 for takeaway curry, bargain at that price there. Hot, spicy and authentic naan included. Set up a hungry boy for the days tasks ahead and put a bit of fire in me belly! Think I'll be sampling Welsh dragon home made sausage bap next time I'm passing on a Sunday morning. Or maybe another of the select dishes available from the bar menu. All at a price that leaves plenty in the bank for a few more beverages! I could have wiled away many more hours had I not had a chore packed day looming on my horizon. Appreciating the smorgasbord of memorabilia available for perusal at your leisure would require many more hours than I had available. The place is packed with photos, team colours, sports knick knacks and autographed antiquities. I do believe I'll have to make a day of it soon. I'll ditch the car and spend a leisurely Sunday sampling the delights of a clean, well set up and interesting establishment. The place brings back memories of pubs I'd visit as a young 'un , in the days when stainless steel and glass were in the kitchen and full of ale not part of the decor. The atmosphere is relaxed with a side order of friendly banter. It's definitely one for the sports fans but no sports fan in particular. Which as a fan of football but not a football fan of any chosen colours, I could appreciate. I'm not blue and white, red, gold or any other colour of the rainbow. I just like sport in general. Any colour and any way it is served. Some great boxing photos in the area next to the toilets that caught my eye. The girls behind the bar are friendly and I got chatting to a couple of local lads who were just as welcoming. Noticed a karaoke setup in the corner so am hoping to go back at some point and have me a sing song when I can. All in all it was a pit stop worthy of a return visit. I can't recommend this place enough (clearly from my lengthy, novelesque review!). I don't spend nearly as much time in the pub as I ought to and it doesn't help that many of my locals (I am from Pelsall) have been erased from existence (Free Trade = flats and The Swan = curry house). If I could pick this pub up and take it several miles roughly north west, I'd love it in my little village! So look after your cherished boozers because once they go they don't come back. All the memories and the good times just don't seem as real when the places they were made are no longer. Here's to good beer, good food, good times and hopefully an epic session with a tale or two to spin to the bairns! I'm getting on but there's still a good night or two left in the...
Read moreCalled in here today after going to Pizza Hut and finding out they no longer accept cash and you have to pay via phone. I don't have that facility so i took my custom just up the road to the new Horse and Jockey, which we've been meaning to try for a while now, where they willingly accepted my 'dirty' cash. 😉. Pizza Hut did us a HUGE favour in turning us away and us coming to this gem of a place! The staff were very friendly, the premises were lovely and clean and the food? Well, it was some of the best food we've eaten in a long time. (And we eat out nearly every Sunday!) Our bill for 3 gigantic sunday lunches (pictured), 3 drinks AND 3 lovely puddings came to £38. That would have cost £80 upwards at Pizza Hut! Yup, we'll be back here again 100% but with MANY friends in tow next time! Keep up the good work folks and thank you for a...
Read moreWhat a disgrace!.....visited horse & jockey over August Bank holiday weekend and well it was extremely quiet, just 2 others in the bar excluding the staff. You wonder why what was a extremely popular pub in Wednesbury has become like this and then you enter the ladies toilets. 2 of the 3 toilets were marked as out of order and it's debatable whether the 3rd should have been in service given the amount of water(?) everywhere. Advertised entertainment didn't appear to be playing unless we had missed it? We certainly didn't hang around for a 2nd drink and won't be back anytime soon unless the place can work through the current issues, just hope it can be turned around before the doors...
