Have been eating here on a Sunday, mainly, for over 2 years. The food has always been very good and the service is normally very good also. However we both had a Sunday roast 2 weeks before Christmas and the sprouts (definitely frozen) and carrots were definitely undercooked. I don't mind al dente but they were way under. The server came over and asked us how our meals were before I had had chance to eat either of those veg, so let it slide as we thought it was just a blip, joking that 'it had better not happen on Christmas day ' for which we had booked up for. Well Christmas day arrived and we arrived 20 mins early, as I had received a phone call previously asking if we could get there earlier. We sat and waited 15 minutes to see if it was normal table service for drinks but then gave up and got our own. Sat there for another 20 mins before our starters arrived. Fondue and a pate. Both nice but why wasn't nobody was given a spoon for the fondue? Server came over and asked if we were ready for our Mains, to which we replied 'yes'. We then waited another 25 minutes for those to arrive. Frozen sprouts, still with stalks on, carrots and also the parsnips were rock hard again. So I went over to the waitress and told her about them. 10 minutes later she came over and said 'I've spoken to the manager and what du want me to do?' I replied 'I would like some properly cooked veg please'. 20 minutes later and nothing! Next thing we know she's coming over with our desserts, before even clearing the plates. This was clearly because they were trying to rush us as I know for fact they wanted us out by 2.30, as per previous conversation on the 'phone. I said to the waitress 'I'm not getting my veg then?' to which she replied 'She sposed to be ......' and promptly walked off. So for almost £55 per head would I eat my Christmas Dinner there again? Definitely...
Read moreI've eaten multiple times at the Queen Inn in West Bromwich, and have had a pleasant experience every single time. I am always seated really quickly whether I have first booked a table or have no reservations at all. The staff are very attentive but not too overly moddycoddling, giving enough time to choose dishes, whilst not leaving you sitting around feeling frustrated. For today's meal I was greedy and opted for 2 mains; the Thai Green Curry (Vegetarian), and the Chicken and Bacon toasted club sandwich. A very good price at around 12 British pounds for both meals!. Both dishes were delicious. I especially enjoyed the sweet potato in the Green Curry, an addition I'll definitely be adding to my own recipe next time. The Curry was not overly spicy but had a nice moderate kick of fresh chilli. The sandwich was very standard but cooked well and all the ingredients fresh. Overall another great meal at the Queen Inn, my favourite local eat for both value and great service. I have also included in my review pictures of the Sunday Roast. I usually opt for the trio of meats. The food is beautiful and delicious for the price, and for only 1 pound extra you can upgrade to unlimited roasties, gravy, and Yorkshire puds (Which I always do by the way). I leave feeling very satisfied and very gluttonous, but often with a smile on my face :). Thank you and a shout out to lovely Lauren, who's been my waitress a few times now, topped me up on tatas and yorkies, and always with a pleasant smile. Much appreciated Lauren. After eating I'd highly recommend a walk around the local Dartmouth Park RSPB to alleviate any guilt and calories. If visiting the Birmingham, or West Bromwich area I'd highly recommend you try this place. Tasty food and really friendly and welcoming staff. A nice escape from the often miserable frowns of West...
Read moreThis is a beautifully-designed restaurant/pub. The food is lovely too. I'm sure the chefs and kitchen assistant are doing their best to meet all the food orders in a timely manner. So while we could see our food sitting at the kitchen counter for a good 10 minutes, they were unfortunately, not promptly picked up by the servers despite reminders that the un-served food were getting cold. What could be worse than being hungry on a cold day and being served lukewarm food. However, it's no fault of the chefs. The restaurant is just short in serving staff
However, we must say that the two servers were also extremely busy, doing the best they could to show guests to the seats, taking orders, serving, cleaning tables, taking payments etc. My conclusion, after waiting for a long time for my hot-meal-turned-cold, is that they should assess the situation which is very critically in need of more servers. There are about 100 seats in this restaurant and tonight was a busy night. It's stressful for 2 servers and the bar person (who helped out) to serve an almost full-capacity restaurant. The management should either review their rota system and put in more staff on busy days, or hire more servers, and do what Fallow Field Hadley restaurant does - and that is, have dedicated servers to serve certain number of tables. Fallow Field's service exceeds expectations albeit the restaurant is not as big.
One could appreciate a good ambience and good quality food, but if there is a shortage of staff and meals have to be requested to be warmed up again, the guests will go elsewhere. Also, the hard working staff members may leave. That will put the restaurant in dire straits. Management - do something to improve...
