My family and I popped in for lunch on our return home to Glasgow from Northumberland. My nephew, who is autistic, had bought a snack from two doors down and wanted to eat it in the coffee shop while he was going to order lunch at 1650 Coffee Shop. There were also 4 adults in our group who all wanted lunch too. The waitress with dark hair was lovely and friendly, but the one with grey/white hair, who I assume was the owner, was so rude and ordered my nephew out of the cafe. Even when we explained that he was going to order lunch, she was quite aggressive. My nephew left and was quite upset standing outside. The same woman marched up behind him and closed the door on him because he'd left it open. Normally I would have challenged this behaviour, but I didn't want to upset my nephew even more or make a scene in front of another customer. To this woman, I would like to say, I'm not sure if you would have spoken to a white family like this. I really do feel there was a racist element. Unfortunately, you haven't shown Dunbar in a good light and I certainly would never recommend your cafe! However I hope you think about your attitude and behaviour in future. You could have dealt with the situation in much more pleasant way, and listened to why we'd allowed a teenager to enter with food...
Read moreI'd looked forward to my first cooked breakfast for a while here after googling the different places in Dunbar that did breakfast. Half a dozen customers and two members of staff when I entered. Most customers were just leaving. Ordered the breakfast stack which sounded great and a latte. As my breakfast was brought out by one member of staff the other one started spraying tables with bleach. Overpowering and especially close to food. The only part of the breakfast that was great was the fried egg. I suspect that everything else was precooked and then either kept in oven or reheated in microwave. Sausage was tough, black pudding was very dry, and bacon was though and dry. The potato scones tasted like they just been put straight on the plate cold. To top it all off, after the tables were bleached clean, both ladies disappeared into kitchen area never to be seen again. Not even so much as a goodbye thanks for your custom. Wouldn't recommend...
Read moreWorst service ever received. The blonde ladies serving couldn't have been ruder and lazier. They spent most of their time chatting with each other rather than attending to customers. We almost left in the time it took for them to attend to us (wish we did). In the time we were there 3 separate customers did leave as couldn't get any acknowledgement from these utterly useless servers, despite their being plenty of free tables. There was literally a queue out the door at one point, while the two servers ignored the whole thing and chatted amongst themselves.
Were made to feel like a complete inconvenience asking for anything, like cutlery which they forgot to give us.
Go to Graze Coffee & Chocolate House instead (it was shut while we were here unfortunately). There the staff will actually attend to you. Their cakes are...
