Visited Caberfeidh today after it recently opened right in the centre of Portree. I'd say it's a work in progress and it needs someone who knows what they're doing, front of house! I walked in at 4.00pm and got a window table in the bar. They didn't have any menus and said they'd bring one over...but they didn't bother using their brains by offering me drink! 🍷 So I took my seat and listened to the waiter return to the table next to tell the diners what they didn't have available on the menu. This included ketchup apparently 😦 (surely someone could have popped to Co-Op !?) After 20 or so minutes I decided to remind the staff that I still had not ordered since I had no menu. It wasn't very busy but the staff were busy chatting to who I assume may have been a chef or someone coming into work so they were all huddled together talking. Eventually I ordered and got my 'Squashed' Venison burger 🍔 in a piece of foil with chips on the side. It presented badly in my view although it was hot and it tasted great. I looked rubbish ! The chips were good. I accidentally spilt my drink and no one noticed as the we're still talking by the bar. I made the server aware and also that the floor might need a mop s it was coke I spilt on the floor. It wasn't dealt with. I was by now late as I only had 1 hour to eat and asked for my bill. I was advised to go to the door and the lady came to the desk. She then took phone calls and left me waiting then asked the person phoning to wait while processing my payment. In the meantime...other staff were doing very little. Overall..service was really poor. Food was decent. Will I return...nope ...five guys do it better and it's better value. If they sort the service out and put the customer first then it's worth a try.

Visited Caberfeidh on Skye for dinner with a small group. The venue itself looked promising: clean, inviting, and we were seated after a brief 10-minute wait. Unfortunately, from that point, things slowed to a crawl. Drinks took over 40 minutes to arrive, and food followed well after the hour mark. No explanation was given at any stage, and our starters — garlic bread and mozzarella sticks — arrived after the mains. In most places, you'd be told upfront if the kitchen is running behind. Here, the silence was louder than the waiting time. Drinks were hit or miss: the piña colada was disappointingly watery, though the OnlyFans Martini was nicely strong. Pizzas were average; toppings decent, but the thick crust was still doughy inside. A positive note: the mozzarella sticks were excellent — crispy and well-seasoned. Then came the bill — with an automatic 10% service charge added. For a meal that took nearly two hours to complete and where service was never acknowledged or adjusted to reflect the wait, it felt undeserved and a bit cheeky. That charge says “we did our part,” but as a guest, it didn’t feel like they did. This place has potential, and staff were polite. But when delays this long aren’t communicated and service fees come standard, it leaves the wrong kind of aftertaste. Had we simply been told about the kitchen delays from the start, the whole experience would have felt very different — a bit of honesty goes a long way.

A nice welcoming restaurant right in the town square of Portree. Recommended to us by the bartender at the local distillery. We were very early for supper so we had our pick of tables and sat in a window booth. It was quiet and relaxing... we were quiet and relaxed... so much so the servers forgot about us for a few minutes! They were VERY apologetic and we all had a chuckle about it. Food... she ordered the margarita pizza with a Gin and Tonic, I had the Chicken Burger with French Fries and a Seaweed IPA. Pizza must have been good because she finished the whole thing. The chicken burger was very good. It was fresh and hot, had cranberry compote on it and the fries were the best in the Isle of Skye. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and provided recommendations for our next day of activities. I recommend giving this restaurant a try. Get the chicken burger!

We had a mixed experience at this bar and restaurant. The staff had a "cheeky" attitude that felt more off-putting than charming. When I asked the hostess if she remembered I was waiting at the bar—after watching her seat someone who arrived after us—she curtly replied, "I know my job!" Not exactly a warm welcome.

The bartender ignored us for some time despite being close by. He was busy, but a quick acknowledgment would’ve gone a long way. When he finally took my order, he mocked me for wanting a lime wedge in my cider and gave a similarly snippy response when I asked about a device he was using behind the bar: "The king of Scotland gave it to us."

Once seated, we weren’t allowed to have a salad as a starter—apparently, “they don't do that.” Okay then. Food arrived reasonably quickly. My partner’s burger was acceptable, but my pizza was a letdown. The crust was soggy and undercooked when it should’ve been crisp, especially for a thin crust. That said, the spicy hot honey topping had good flavor.

Our driver had recommended other places, and honestly, we wish we’d...
