Update on my previous review. The staff is still very friendly and nice, so I'm very sad to have to write this review. However, the food quality went downhill, and for the price (more than £25 per person), I cannot leave my original review.
Some of the food was too salty, some not salty enough. I said I was vegan when I ordered the pickle tray, but yet it was brought to me with some non vegan sauces (2 out of 4). It's also extremely disappointing, in 2024, to not have non-dairy milk options for the chai. Especially as so many people are lactose intolerant or avoid dairy.
The staff was kind and professional enough to replace some of the atrociously over salted dishes. I am not difficult or picky with food, but the dish was inedible at first. When the food came back, the biryani was soggy and plain. The other dish was just ok, like cheap takeaway or buffet style food. I felt like I wasted my money and my appetite.
Another disappointment was no Manchurian veggie balls in the Manchurian vegetarian dish. This is literally the only reason why I order vegetarian Manchurian, I understand it's their recipe but it is not what I expected or wanted.
One thing was delicious though: the mushroom pakoras.
I was so happy the first time I went to Indos, but now I won't come back. I really hope the quality goes up in the future, for the next customers, and that a bit more effort is done towards vegan customers.
Original review in 2023:
Amazing upscale Indian food. Candles and fresh roses on table: perfect for a date or special occasion. The Maître d' makes it feel very upscale. The food is fresh, made to order and steaming hot. The manager is very knowledgeable of vegan requirements and will ensure your food is safe. I will definitely come back! Although I wish they had vegan deserts......
Read moreWe had visited the place and below was our experience,
Regarding food Curries we ordered were seems to be having a lot of tomato ketchup , oil and ghee, and ready made gravy. We ordered Manchurian curry , and there were no munchurian balls. Quantity of curries was less than expected, each curry main dish was costing around 14-15 pounds, but you get same quantity for 9-10 pounds in other restaurants, with lot better taste.
Attitude of staff and service When we checked with staff ( I think he was their manager or captain), why there are no Manchurian balls in curry, he rudely mentioned that this is how they make it. I recommend them to check out other restaurants or even check on internet about the recipe. We never had a Manchurian without Manchurian balls before. Staff was insisting to order full order right at the start, and consistently mentioning that we should order more and they will not be able to serve later in time They billed us around 5 pound extra, and when we checked the bill and showed them the mistake, the behaviour of the manager/ captain was rude towards us and his own staff. It is a basic for person working in hotel and hospitality industry to have decent attitude and that was missing.
Overall it was a horrendous experience for us and it spoiled...
Read moreWe went to Indos for my birthday tea for the first time in a few years. When I went previously I was really impressed and was looking forward to getting back. Sadly though I was left disappointed.
I ordered the mix tandoori grill. Chicken tikka, lamb tikka, sheesh kebab, king prawn tikka and chicken tandoori. What more can a lad want for his birthday tea? Well tasteful food for a start. The chicken tikka was just incredibly tasteless. I’ve seen some pictures from other reviews where the chicken tikka is the bright red we all know and love. This was more white. It was really disappointing.
The lamb was over cooked. The tandoori chicken lacked spice. And I wasn’t able to give an accurate opinion on the prawns, sorry I should say prawn, as I was only given one.
Really disappointing especially after I remember it being so good.
Chillies in Carnoustie is much...
