Istanbul Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Scotland

It turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. The food was absolutely dreadful, it had no real flavour, no spice, and certainly nothing that even came close to Indian. For anyone who actually knows Indian food, this would be shocking. It tasted so far off the mark that it was honestly inedible. Went straight to the bin.

The name of the place is also misleading. Calling it “Istanbul Indian” gives the impression you might get either proper Turkish or proper Indian food, but what’s served is neither. Instead, it’s a confused, poorly cooked mix that doesn’t represent either cuisine. It almost feels like the dishes are put together with no understanding of what Turkish or Indian food is supposed to taste like.

To make things worse, the prices are extremely high for the quality you get. Paying restaurant prices for food this poor is nothing short of a rip-off. When you’re served bland, badly made food at inflated prices, you leave feeling like you’ve completely wasted your money.

The owner / waiter was very much like a used car salesman, chatty with what he thought the customer wanted to hear but friendly and harmless. Food was plentiful and tasted ok, not brilliantly authentic but OK. Drinks menu was basic and cheap brands but the chap was accommodating and generous with measures. I seriously believe we were overcharged considerably, deliberately kept chatting instead of being able to check the bill. £120 plus for 3 main curry's with shared rice, 2 starters and a round of drinks. It really wasn't good at all. Sadly. We had a real job telling which curry was what when the server came. Dhansak or chilli balti. Didn't help dhansak had no visible lentils. That orange coated rubbery chicken wasnt nice, neither the odd vegetable pakora with sweetcorn starter And it certainly wasn't cheap.
