This little bar & restaurant was a chance find for us. We were only in Glasgow 2 nights and wish we had found the Taphouse on the first night. Typical City Centre location, food places everywhere and very few catering for a visiting family such as us with a 6yr old.
It was late evening and we were exhausted and so took the chance to ask if they would let us dine in as there was no note outside re children. They could not have been more welcoming!
The food was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals so much so we went back before leaving the city the next day for our drive back home.
1 thing I do want to say is that we have a massive issue with taking our son out for meals and he doesn't eat a thing. The 2 guys on the first night were fantastic with our son who has Autism. Our son is 'very' specific about what is to be on the plate when it arrives and when it's wrong he gets in a flap as they have added salad or veg etc or the food is touching! Normally we explain this in restaurants and although they nod and agree what arrives is very different to what we asked for.
The guys at the Taphouse were brilliant and ensured that specifically all he asked for was all that was Brought. Including on the 2nd night just a plate of their pop corn chicken... Nothing else! A simple request but a first in actually coming through and it made our son soooo happy!
The other issue we often hit is that most kids meals are just reheated processed foods. Not at the Taphouse. They are handmade and cooked and taste amazing and as our son said "just like what we make at home" . Lovely small bites easy for younger kids or for autistic kids with oral aversion like ours they are a perfect small bite size! Eating at the Taphouse is THE FIRST meal in eating out with our 6yr old EVER that he has not only eaten but cleared the plate!
He even asked if he could to go tell the staff "thank you for my delicious chicken". Another first.
As for the adult meals... Just as fantastic. Over the 2 nights we had the Porky Pig Pizza, Deep South Burger and the Tap House burger and not a morsel was left. Every mouthful was tasty and we left stuff & happy.
There is a good selection of beers, lagers and spirits and if you are a 1 mainstream brand only kind of person then this place may not be up your street. But if you like to try out different brands then they have plenty that you should find something to suit your taste and staff are happy to aid you in choosing a beer to your liking.
Good selection of drinks for the kids and they have taken time to stick to healthy options so no fruit shoot in sight (Yyyaaaayyyyy)
It has a lovely warm, cosy atmosphere and loved the reclaimed industrial materials that made up the tables, fixtures and finishings. I'm not sure if they have changed a few things looking at other recent reviews but certainly we were seated not far from the toilets and there was no chemical smell we noted. Only thing I would say re the ladies is perhaps hanging the doors the other way so they open outwards from the cubicles. They were fine for me but larger ladies are going to struggle with the tiny cubicle space and be able to shut the door for privacy. An easy fix.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visits and we gave a feeling next time we talk of going out for a meal we know where our son will want to go even if it is just over an hours...
Read moreTwo staff out of 3 off sick and they still tried to work as if fully staffed found a seat and waited got two cokes and waited 1 hour later still waiting while people who had come in after us had not only been served but we're waiting to pay bill. I complained and was told I didn't wait to be seated. Asked why the waiter didn't say no answer left got a few steps then went back to complain to manager. On way back in a customer pointed out a rat running out door. Saw manager that was when I was told the reason I wasn't served. While it seemed a good idea to keep me waiting with no intention of service it means I watched the only floor staff on so I seen him constantly go in and out of food preparation area without health and safety standards being followed and in the time I watched he only used the Hand sanitizer once on the way out of the prep area after he had got a dog a...
Read moreIdeal for a bite to eat and a decent pint before going to the Hydro/Armadillo etc. Very reasonably priced and the food was very tasty - recommend the Asian Hot Dog and the Taphouse burger.
The service was first class. Timely, polite, efficient and pleasant - everything you hope for in such an establishment.
There was a nice, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The choice of music was spot on. Rock classics one after the other the whole time we were there.
Looking forward to a second visit soon.
