One of the last giant cantilever cranes built on the Clyde. Specifically designed for carrying huge engines and locomotives for loading onto ships and transport across the British Empire. The design was copied across the world.

As many as 30,000 locomotives were produced in Springburn and carried through the streets of Glasgow by Clydesdale horse, train and engines on specially built rails. Glasgow was the premier creator of engines and ships in both technology, quantity and quality at the time.

The surrounding areas on both sides of the Clyde were once huge docks for building, loading and repairing ships. Much of the surrounding buildings, warehouses and neighbourhoods were destroyed and the rubble used to fill...

Also known as the Stobcross Giant Cantilever Crane, this memorial to Glasgow's mercantile legacy was built between 1928-31 by Cowans Sheldon and Co. of Carlisle and Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co.

It went into operation in 1932 to serve the adjacent North British Diesel Engine Works, being powerful enough to lift railway engines and tanks onto cargo ships, which were then shipped to clients across the globe. The Crane operated until 1969 when the...

Finnieston Crane, Glasgow'un ikonik endüstriyel simgelerinden biridir.

The most famous of many Glasgow landmarks and now a monument to the shipping industry and the shipyard workers. Also famous for loading steam locomotives onto ships for export around the world. Commissioned in 1928 and completed in 1931 it cost £69,000 to build. It is 175 feet high and could lift 175 tons.
