Was staying in Ayr for a week, came here for some dinner on a Friday a few weeks ago. Ordered Chicken wings to start, followed by chilli lobster roll for the main. The chicken wings were ok, however the chilli lobster roll was very poor, hence the one star. The brioche bun was stale, hardly any lobster on the roll, hardly any chilli, my friend I was in with had the same & agreed it was terrible. For one portion of wings, 2 lobster rolls and some pints, there wasn't much change from £100. Left feeling very short changed & I'm shocked at why the reviews are so good for this place when they are charging premium prices for terrible food? I had a similar dish from the Ghillie Dhu across the road earlier this year and it was leaps and bounds better. As for the wings, I actually had better ones for half the price from the wetherspoons the following evening.

Would...

Went in for a date night, was looking forward to trying a place we pass often. Unfortunately, as soon as we arrived we noticed how miserable the gaff was. There was a distinct lack of music, noise - anything really. We ordered from the set menu and were extremely dissatisfied with the portion size specifically with the caeser salad, which was constructed with about 4 leaves of lettuce and a brief drizzle of dressing. Chips were class we’ll give you that, as was the Beaverton lager we ordered prior to our meal. Pudding… Uh oh! Absolutely shocking to be perfectly honest. Never had a grittier sticky toffee pudding in my life, holy moly! At the end of the day avoid. Quarantine is temporary? More like quarantine from The Growler lmao. 🗣️(Service was fine, can understand the lack of enthusiasm due to how dire this place is - I wouldn’t wanna work...

I’m used to having a ton of options for this kind of place down in London and the GROWLER TH&K really delivered. Great selection of craft beers, fantastic and perfectly suited decor, food is amazing and generous... and the staff are friendly and accommodating and always seem to go the extra mile!

I don’t often go somewhere and find my self able to give it five stars as there are usually things that can be improved, but short of doing what they’re doing for free, this place has earned them, and some!

Side note: hate to say it... but having read the reviews... the people that have left low starred reviews, might not really know what they’re talking about 😬 I mean if you are comparing this place to a spoons or consider £4/pint too much, stick to Wetherspoons, or maybe just your own...

The Growler Pub is a fantastic local spot that captures the essence of community and great hospitality. With a warm, welcoming atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day. The staff are friendly and attentive, ensuring that every guest feels valued. The pub boasts an impressive selection of craft beers and ciders, catering to diverse tastes. Their menu features delicious pub classics, all prepared with care and quality ingredients. Whether you’re enjoying a hearty meal or just snacking with friends, the food never disappoints. Regular events and live music add to the lively ambiance, making it a great venue for socializing. The Growler Pub truly stands out as a beloved gathering place where everyone can relax, connect, and enjoy good times together.

Very friendly and pleasant staff, Interesting with the whole dog friendly policy, I guess you love it or hate it, great if the dogs are peaceful, really annoying if they start barking when you're trying to enjoy your drink/meal with a friend. Food was alright, we ordered the meat platter for 2, for £40. Quite expensive for what you get. Then it's about £5 a pint. Quality was ok but deep fried goujons etc. were a tad too long in the fryer. Brown instead of golden batter so had that burnt taste. This would sadly stop me coming back. Also, these platters used to be around £25-£30 from what I recall which was far more reasonable. I guess a lot of places are inflating prices to catch up on lockdown losses, so you are certainly picking up that tab as a customer just now.
