McMillan is one of the best restaurants in Glasgow. I visited earlier today and immediately had to leave a review. It was probably the best Sunday Roast I've ever had. Certainly the best I've had in recent times.
The meat was topside beef (my friend had a chicken replacement which the restaurant kindly offered as a replacement). The topside was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The plate also came with some tenderstem broccoli, cooked to perfection, some cauliflower cheese, also perfect, a small slice of roasted corn-on-the-cob, some mashed potato, some roasted potato, and of course the legendary Yorkshire pudding, which was amazingly puffed up and beatifully presented.
The gravy was so good, we had to get a second one for the table!
For dessert, I had the strawberry cheesecake which was topped with a delicious crunchy crumble. I felt the cream was a little too "creamy" and heavy, and could have used more cheese, but as a whole dish with the crumble and strawberry it was delicious. I also had an affogato and the coffee was great quality.
The service was very attentive and polite, friendly staff everywhere and very accommodating.
The ambiance is really great. They have traditional American-Diner-style "booths", which is ideal for small families and friends - not too noisy and very comfortable. Everything has a decent amount of quality to it, although the crockery and cuttlery is a bit boring/standard but it suits the style of restaurant.
Unfortunately, when it comes to parking, it is quite frustrating, there are only 3 spaces available directly on the restaurant site, so most people will park on Titwood Road, however there are very few spaces here too, and we ended up parking quite far down the road and had to walk back, so bear that in mind if you have mobility issues or it's pouring down with rain (as it was today!).
Overall, this is an amazing restaurant for Sunday Lunch and I would definitely come back again on a weekday to try the rest of the menu. I would highly recommend it to everyone and I think the other reviews echo the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDisappointing.
Went for Sunday Roast and was told the Sunday Roast menu was replaced for Xmas - fair enough. Was given the options, and when I ordered, the option was unavailable. So, ultimately went for a third choice.
We ordered the sausages and mash followed by some strawberry ice cream for our daughter, and the chateaubriand 500g with mac cheese, fries, mash, peppercorn sauce and some broccoli for my partner and I.
The kid's sausages were really hard. You could tell they were good meat, nice and flavoursome and good texture, but arguably, they hadn't been cooked properly.
The steak was unevenly cooked too. We asked for it medium rare, but on the outside it was closer to well done, and the centre was blue - this is a serious problem for anyone ordering a steak and sides that's costing £100 for two people. In hindsight I should have handed it back, but sometimes it is awkward to do so.
The mash was dry, and although it was flavoursome enough, and I could tell there was butter through it from taste, the texture was very questionable and poor. The hand-cut chips were slightly undercooked and still quite hard in the middle - which was disappointing. The broccoli with chilli and garlic was good though, but it's probably the easiest dish on the plate with some garlic oil and chilli flakes added to the pan so, not worth celebrating.
I had also noted it was my wee one's birthday when booking, and not a mention of it when we were there. I know that's not mandatory but when the food isn't all that great, you half expect the service to be a bit better.
So, overall was quite let down by the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI like it here a lot. Love that it is comfortable and chilled. I get the burger on most occasions. I think that every time I get it well it's just that recipe on the night. It is too full of garlic. I love garlic. I use lots of it a lot. But I don't like the burger with the principal taste of garlic. So when I was there last week I thought...why is it always like that. So I mentioned to waiter when he picked up my 1/4 eaten burger about the garlic. He said it is the recipe. I feel quite deflated that this is the case. It is not a taste I want to receive in a burger. So...it won't put me off going back of course but it does limit my choice now. I have a very limited diet in relation to what I like. The pate is fab. The Cullen skink...amazing. chips. Onion rings. Cauliflower cheese. All to enjoy. Very very nice. Service is good. All staff are spotless which I like. Prices are acceptable. Wine menu....read reviews about this. It is what it is and if you skimp on a drink with such nice food..go for a coke then which will not compliment your food. I went for breakfast on Sunday morning. Black pudding was a little undercooked for me but I was too busy gabbing to note immediately. It was cooked to a chef's recommendations- I get It. I like this place a lot. I love the log fire. So cosy. One of my...
