First of all I would like to say that bramble is one of the best spots for breakfast & brunch but the customer service and some members of the staff, one in particular leaves you with no desire to come, despite having the excellent food, a few times when I have came alongside with other people, they have also shared and other people online also have shared their similar experiences with the service of the place have agreed that this is a constant issue with a certain demographic compared to other customers. Having experienced this a few times I had brushed it off thinking maybe it would be an off day for them but then the server had turned to the next table with a completely different attitude and demeanour, she was rushed with us and didn’t even bother with small talk despite our attempt, and with the next table she took her time and gave them a lovely conversation. The small actions make a huge difference towards how customers feel to the establishment, as mentioned at the start the food is divine yet it is such a shame because the service has put many people off and many people are aware of some staff’s attitude towards certain minorities. Also we had been in just when it hit 3pm, knowing they close at 4 there were a few people inside we had went to the door and the woman just brushed her hand to us to say we are closed as we seen the door closed, without even having a small conversation of hey, we are closed or we are no longer serving people, just a small interaction would be fine but a brush of the hand to gesture bye and not to come in was completely unnecessary and as mentioned small interactions make a huge impact on a customer, we had then felt uncomfortable with that interaction and went to a cafe nearby, it truly is a shame of how this had turned into a horrible experience with a lovely...
Read moreWent here with my friend who recommended the restaurant / cafe for lunch. Bookings are not taken here like a few other places in the Southside, upon arrival staff will give a (usually pretty accurate, according to my friend) estimate of how long the wait will be, and if you don’t mind the wait you’ll need to leave your name and contact number. Waiting times can be anywhere between 15 minutes to 2 hours, we were given 45 minutes on this occasion and we went for a wander about around the local shops. They do have some benches just outside, but weather can be unpredictable in Glasgow.
Do be aware that as they welcome customisation of their menu items to a certain degree, you need to be clear with staff whether you’re taking an option that is on the menu or if you’re wanting something extra to what is offered.
I tried their Veggie Haggis listed under Hollandaise, with a couple slices of halloumi. I thought it must have been their best dish on the menu until my friend offered a taste of her Oyster Mushroom Toast. It was magical. Before this day I honestly thought I already knew where the nicest places for food were in Glasgow.
It wasn’t hard to tell a lot of thought was put into the dishes we had, made with quality ingredients.
The hot chocolate came with a nice presentation, but that was pretty much it besides turning lukewarm very quickly. Didn’t feel particularly smooth.
If you are in the area, you want to come here for brunch / try and see if you are in luck for a nice lunch.
Service was friendly...
Read moreWe have been here three times now and never had a completely satisfying experience. The atmosphere and the staff are absolutely lovely, but the food just doesn't hit the mark for us. We really want it to be good, but we are always slightly disappointed.
The dishes on the main menu are OK (but, at least in our book not as good as some options being offered within walking distance). The use of spices and herbs is a bit lacking, which makes the dishes taste a bit flat and one-dimensional. The sweet dishes are way too sugary for my pallet. The poorest experiences we had was when their daily specials ventured into exotic territory: We once had a Mexican inspired dish and the other time a Japanese one (Okonomiyaki), both of which had nothing in common with their respective inspirations and also didn't taste great. Also, portion sizes do not reflect the bougy prices. I am not the biggest eater myself but even I am not really full after one portion.
Now, given the long queues and generally positive reviews, my view is definitely a minority report, so maybe I was unlucky. But then again, being unlucky three times in a row would be very unlucky indeed, so perhaps it's just not for me. Luckily there are other good options within walking distance. Personally, I hope Bramble is here to stay. For one, it seems to make a whole bunch of other folks very happy. And the queues at Strangebrew and Sunny Acre have become a bit more tolerable as a result. It's great there is this type of choice in the Southside. To...
