Tried elsewhere but it was unexpectedly closed today 2nd December. Went in the door of our alternate choice of venue and a lady behind the bar pointed us in the direction of the tables in an area called The Kitchen for a meal. Nice lady gave us menu's and a young lady took our drinks order while we decided on what to eat. We all had a diet coke followed by chicken and rice soup which my friend loved, nachos with salsa, jalapeños and sour cream which was burnt at the edges and the salsa didn't seem homemade and on the whole was quite dry. The prawn tempura on toast also looked dry and the toast was also burnt, my male friend said it was OK. The mains of 1x chicken fajitas was nicely presented but there wasn't much chicken and there was a lot of onion/sweet pepper sauce but the x4 mini wraps with accompanying cheese, salsa, sour cream and jalapeños made it seem a lot. The Hunter chicken burger was again burnt at the edges but saved by the bacon/cheese, fries and Asian slaw which Ray said was just fine. I had the bbq beef Brisket burger which I hadn't realised was a double patty burger with a little bbq shredded Brisket on top, once again the edges of the burgers were dry and burnt and the centre was still slightly pink. The Brisket was dry despite the bbq sauce (bottled, I suspect). The Asian slaw didn't taste right, a bit vinegary and not unlike ordinary cheap coleslaw. The seasoned chips were fine as were the 2 onion rings but I honestly couldn't finish any of the items. The service was good and friendly but the place was cold (?heating on). The burgers were one a buy one get one free deal as it is on Mon-Thurs but everything came to over £47 which is fair. Haven't visited for years and liked the different decor but a little tired in places and was cold inside. Was starting to get a bit busier as we were leaving but the food was only average so won't be...
Read moreThe Montford is really good, the food is delicious, the staff are friendly and it's not expensive. My partner and I split a sharing platter for our starter. Now, we don't normally do the three course meal thing, but this was so worth the food induced haze on the drive home. The nachos were great, the garlic bread lather with lots of garlic butter (but not to the point it was sodden) the crusts crispy and the bread lovely and soft. There are onion rings hiding under there too, the batter nice and crispy.m and the mozzarella sticks were piping hot with a good cheese pull on them. For my main, I had jacked chicken. Which is chicken breast topped with cheese and a delicious barbecue sauce, I added bacon to mine. And opted for the delightfully fluffy-on-the-inside and crispy-on-the-outside hand-cut chips. For my dessert: a bannoffee sundae. I won't lie; by this point I was stuffed, so I mostly picked out pieces of banana. But what I tasted of the ice-cream was good too. My other half had the chocolate fudge cake with pouring cream. Which he said was nice- but not as good as the one his mum makes.
On talking we were told that the place is wheelchair accessible, and has a pretty spacious accessible toilet. The place is also family friendly for meals. I've been here a few times now and it has yet...
Read moreVisited yesterday evening (17.30) with my partner and son. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table in a timely fashion. Drinks were taken and served quickly and we were given ample time to choose and order our meals.
The Irn Bru BBQ Wings are amazing! So much flavour in these wings and there were 6 to a portion. The breaded mushrooms were also delicious.
For our mains, we ordered the margherita pizza - which was huge! My son said this was one of the best he's tasted. I ordered scampi with fries - the portion size was more than enough, with the scampi cooked to perfection. My partner ordered the Chilli Dog - said it was beautiful and had a kick to it.
Sides to share : Onion Rings (tasty and light, not heavy and sickening like other eateries I have previously tried) & Chunky chips (crispy on the outside and fluffy within)
Drinks: Cosmopolitan was delicious Tennents - cold and refreshing. A wee issue with the draught coke when I received my JD & coke, however this was quickly resolved without further issue and I received a can instead at no extra cost.
The staff were friendly and helpful and although busy, did not rush us for meals / drinks etc.
I would recommend this pub/eatery, cannot fault a thing and will most...
