Just in town for family visit from Canada and inquired on the street for simple pub food served well and with chatty locals. Surprise surprise - got all that and some more.
Ordered what I thought to be a.steak pie however, came as a delicious beef stew with nicely baked and puff pastry topper known in my circle of the business as a feuillete, minus the sweet filling - very nice all the same.
The dessert was the chart topper - warm sticky toffee pudding with traditional caramel sauce, ice cream, powdered sugar a nicely garnished with flowering gooseberry. I am a suckered for sweets... Apparently the cook on duty is young and obviously proud of his craft, and will be noticed if he keeps it...
Read moreWorst nights sleep I’ve ever had, was like something out of a horror movie, outdated decor, beds were so uncomfy I would have been better sleeping on the floor, and window was jammed open so I was cold all night because the sheets were paper thin and pillows were super thin aswell! I woke up the next day and was told there was no one at the reception so I would have to leave out another door there was literally no one there but who I hope was a cleaner because I gave her my room...

There is plenty of choice on the menu from soup, paninis, jacket potatoes to salads and main meals of fish, pasta and meat. There is also a tasty dessert menu if you still have room.
