The food was amazing. The service by a select duo however was rude and obnoxius. The waitress taking orders (with the grey strapped smart watch), asked for our food order extremely quickly despite the large menu, which is fair, we may have known what we wanted, but we didnt. To which there was a sigh and a look to the aformentioned watch. A trick we dismissed as odd and by chance, but when she did the same to the table next to us and they noticed it too, it was clear that she was either rude, oblivous or both.
The starters came very quickly and were delicious. However the mains took 45 mins. Now, the resturant wasn't full, and I'm no chef, but if you cook halibut and mash for 45 mins it is not going to taste like it did (mega). But what of the other meal? Well, I'd be even more interested to know how it takes that long to plate up a cold crab!
When the food did eventually come, the duty manager (who was all too proud to hand out his business card) with the bill assuming a healthy tip would be appropite was all to ready to ask if we would like any more drinks (an hour and 10 mins after we entered the establisment). I spy another little trick.
Not really good enough for a very well staffed resturant. At no point did anyone apologise for the wait.
They seemed to take an awful lot of time over the tables, especially your main man, Laszlo Kovics (good business card) they seemed interested in. Shame really. The deserts and whisky we would have had if the service wasnt rude would probably have paid for the complementry drinks for the american dinners in the window.
On review, eat at this resturant, but be prepared for it to take all day. Although saying that, the crab was so fresh, maybe they went and caught...
Read moreVisited on 15 March for supper. Mussell starter was lovely, husbands scallop and venison starter was cold but he didn't complain. I would have. Unless you are having a salad, there is nothing worse than a cold plate or cold food. My main meal, venison burger and chips - arrived, plate cold, burger cold. I mentioned it to staff. As they took it away they said they would change it. My husband asked if they would take his away to keep it warm so we could eat at the same time. Mine came back exactly the same. Same burger with the bits out where I had tasted it. Still cold only this time it was even colder, plate still cold. How hard can that be? Husband's plate was roasting, the way it should have been. I explained again that nothing had changed with my meal and another member of staff asked if I wanted something completely different. Having been in the restaurant for about an hour or more, my appetite was gone and the experience already wasted. We asked for the bill for our drinks and the food we had ate, which we got and paid for. Not much of an apology, in fact, I don't actually remember the word sorry being mentioned. Got the impression that they didn't really care which anyone in the hospitality industry will know is not a good attitude and certainly not good for business.. We were so looking forward to our meal, it was my husband's birthday and instead of booking our favourite Oban restaurant I decided to book this one for what I thought was going to be a lovely changed. We won't be back and wouldn't recommend to anyone. ...
Read moreWhilst there is a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The food was massively underwhelming. I had previously read on the reviews how good the haddock chowder was. It felt like I was eating thin warm cream with a bit of fish sauce in it, a couple of bits of fish and potatoes. When I mentioned it wasn’t that good I was told that is how haddock chowder is made. I had to change my main course. Haddock on mash with cheddar cheese as what I had previously ordered from the gluten free menu wasn’t even gluten free once he’d checked with the kitchen. As the haddock on mash wasn’t very nice i was offered a new main course. Again not that great. Also had a two awkward conversations with a front of house person - didn’t understand when I asked for a gluten free menu and tried to bring me the kids menu. Asked if my coffee had oat milk in it and omg this person was so rude it really ruined the evening from the start. He actually told me that I would have to have it black as you can’t have oat milk in coffee. When the waiting staff in the red aprons came on shift they were all very good. I couldn’t fault their service. But sorry have given one star for the service because of the one particular person who showed us to our table and argued with me about oat milk. All in all a big disappointment- it’s the only evening restaurant we had planned to go to on our one month road trip as it was my birthday. I think like other people have said there are other places to go in Oban - I wouldn’t go here...
