Hoghton Lounge Bar — Restaurant in Sefton

Don't bother going for food as the Chef decides on the day if he's serving food or not. As a returning customer my last visit was a terrible experience. I rang up to check what time lunch was served till and I was told by a lady on the phone 2.30PM. As I don't live in the area and wanted to check first incase I had travelled there and it was closed or had stopped serving food. Which on a previous occasion we had just rocked up paid for parking and was told only cakes and drinks available. So on conformation that food was served until 2.30pm we arrived well before 2pm after again paying for parking as there is not parking facilities. Went in and asked for table for two only to be told they have stopped serving food. I then said that I rang up and you confirmed 2.30pm was when food was stopped and the waitress just said it's the Chef who isn't preparing or cooking any more food today. First time visiting for breakfast after hearing good things. Firstly, staff were lovely and very attentive, bringing menus and a highchair out without us having to ask. Secondly, the food and drinks arrived quickly and we're all well presented and of a great quality, especially for the price. We had a breakfast barm, a Welsh rarebit and a portion of blueberry pancakes. Only negative comment on the food is that I would've like to see blueberry in the pancakes themselves rather than a topping but we enjoyed regardless Price was low to middle for the area, with the standard being better than places with a similar price. My girlfriend and i and was told that not all items on the brunch menu which is between 9am to 4pm were available we were told that we could have a large breakfast but we could not have the small breakfast where is the sense in that ? The chef would have had to cook the same amount of ingredients for two small breakfasts as a large it seems to me the owners are trying to up sell rather than get repeat customers.
