La Parrilla Mexican Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Sefton

Will start by saying how hospitable the staff were and how good it was to offer a cheesecake as we had a group birthday. Overall however I’d say the food was only okay and not really authentic. Considering it is a Mexican restaurant, I requested my food to be very spicy so was expecting that and I asked for only a little sour cream on the food. So I was a little disappointed when receiving my food that it tasted rather under seasoned and I didn’t really taste any spice at all, the salsa although requested hot tasted like a mild one. The food had what I’d say is excessive sour cream on top which made eating the burrito particularly more difficult. Considering prior to the meal also I saw someone bringing a tub of what looked like the cooked rice I had I wasn’t surprised to find that felt very dry and bland. Despite quite a few flaws there were good points such as the cocktails we tried, wedges, guac and meatballs. As mentioned despite the food being under seasoned and not spicy it was still cooked properly in the taco and burrito. Overall I’d say there are better restaurant options in the area for the price but this place is somewhere which is maybe worth a try for someone if you don’t mind that the food is more of an imitation of Mexican food. Food is mexenglish I'd say. Yes the Mexican taste is there, but recipes have been adapted to the local audience. That said the burritos I had was full of meat and worth the price. Even the food my wife and parents had was good. Only thing we didn't like was the lamb my daughter ordered. Was bitter at very least, but that was promptly replaced with something else and none of those meal were charged to us. Sangria was sort of Ok.

Waiters (the lady we had) are not great and responsive I'd say, but the manager is quite prone to look after his business and was hanging around table to check with his guest whether everything was fine.

Have been looking for a good Mexican and decided to try La Parrilla (Crosby). Visited on an early weekday evening during happy hour. Greeted by friendly staff and seated quickly. Service was quick and effiecent and the food arrived soon after. The food was fine, however after enjoying many Mexican places across the US we were expecting a slightly different flavor. Could just be regional difference. The experience was tainted with the lack of social distancing.
