Absolutely disgusted with my visit at the Belfry today. My family and I came to the belfry today and was appalled by the lack of social distancing, and pub safety through Covid-19 which the pub claimed to have. We had a party of 7 which was separated to either ends of the pub so really no point in being of the same group. When looking at the menu we really wasn’t spoilt for choice with the lack of food available and majority of this was out Of stock, leaving not much room for options. Our main meals came out before our starters which obviously isn’t ideal, so I asked the waiter where our starters were and he went to check when he then brought them out for us. Our starters were ALL cold and whilst we ate them we were told we had to eat our mains at that time as they were already cooked and they had ran out of our desired meals. All three steaks were ordered rare and all came out cold and well done! Not enjoyable at all, and not offered a choice of a different meal. Finally when we went went to order our desserts we were told the kitchen was closed even though the time was 8:45 and the kitchen never closed until 9. I also saw a lack of hand sanitizers and a lack of people wiping tables which i thought to be a lack of care for both staff and customers as we are in the middle of a pandemic. There was also no social distancing within the toilets as when entered there was people using all 4 cubicles, this never occurred in any of the other local pubs within the area and were very on top of social distancing and sanitation. To say the least my brothers birthday meal was ruined and we will definitely not be visiting the belfry...
Read moreThe food we had at the belfry was by far the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant. 3 of us dined on Sunday tea time, now whether it was the time of day I don't know but it wasnt that busy so no excuses really. I ordered a rib eye steak, the quality of steak was truly appaling when I cut into what was supposed to be medium rib eye it was nothing but gristle. Not being one to complain I tried to eat around the sinewy bits but there wasn't a decent mouthful. My wife had ordered the same and hers was better but not greatly so. Eventually after trying to eat it for several minutes it beat me and I had to mention to the waitress that it was inedible. She took one look at the gristly sinewy lump of bloody meat on my plate and agreed that it was a disgrace that it left the kitchen. She duly ordered me another meal and assured me my new steak was of a better quality without sinew. The thing is why was it sent out anyway? To be honest I think the chef was just hoping that he would get away with that one. When the new meal came the steak was better but by that time my family had eaten theirs so I ate alone picking at the meal when I had quite frankly lost my apetite by this stage. We paid and left vowing not to give this pub another penny of our hard earned money. I would strongly advise against ordering the steak if you decide to have a gamble and risk parting with your cash at this establishment. The waiting staff were courteous and apologetic as for the chef I don't think he would have cobbled his shoe on my bit of steak. Go somewhere else. I scored one out of five since there is no facility to score none...
Read moreOur family have been eating at the Belfry for many years. It was a lovely experience and good food. I think Chris was the under manager and Joe was a waiter. They made us very welcome. Our daughter and her family travel from New Tupton and we book for 3 0'clock on Sundays so her partner can get to work on nights. We booked as usual, for 12 diners, before Christmas and we had to wait a good while for our meal so it was a rush for Dean to get to work and some of the meals were not up to the usual standard. This Sunday we had to wait a long time for the meal. I ordered the cod father meal which my husband always has because my grill the last time was not good. My chips were almost cold so I ate them quickly thinking the fish would be hot. The fish and peas were only tepid. I asked the waitress if they would warm up she brought them back on a clean plate and asked if I would like some peas, I didn't bother. The fish was hot but soggy. My husbands fish was not up to usual standard, One diner ordered a large grill, it was only the same as the small one, another diner did not get the garnish she ordered. The lamb and gammon was not available. My husband started to complain to the manager but we had to leave for Dean to get to work as we got our meal so late. So up to now we do not know the outcome as we had to leave the rest of the party. We did notice that some people on another table were complaining. It has definately...
