My friend and i have visited quite a few Wetherspoons over the years and find them good value for money. They are usually located in some interested, repurposed buildings with a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. The food overall is consistently good although i find most Wetherspoons struggle to produce a rare steak and more often than not i end up being served anything from medium to very well done. The Scarsdale Hundred has been open 4 or 5 months now and its taken us a while to get around to trying it. My friend took me as a treat after shopping in Crystal Peaks and the nearby retail parks. We opted to eat around 4.30/5pm on Thursday 21 April 2022; before it was likely to get overly busy. The Scarsdale Hundred is not as characterful as some of the older Wetherspoon buildings and the large expanse of the eating area definitely lacks a cosy atmosphere. My friend went in search of a Curry Club menu for me as there were none on our, or any of the nearby tables. Meanwhile i had a quick look at the Scarsdale Hundred menu on the Wetherspoons App and disappointingly the samosas and onion bharjis showed as out of stock. I chose the sweet potato, chickpea and spinach curry with a glass of Merlot and my friend had steak and chips and a beer. The food arrived and i noticed the mango chutney was missing. My friend told me to start on my meal and they went in search of a Server to request the missing item. It arrived soon afterwards and came with an apology. My friends meal was ok, nothing to write home about. I thought it looked a bit sad just steak and chips on a plate. No garnish to make it look more attractive and the steak wasn't very appealing as it didn't look juicy or glistening. I must say; overall, i was disappointed with my meal. I have had this curry quite a few times in Wetherspoons in the past, but on this occasion; it missed the mark. I enjoyed the poppadoms and chutney, but the rest of the food (curry, rice and nan bread) had arrived nearly cold. The flavours of the curry were nice but the sauce itself just looked like coloured water. It definitely didn't have the smooth, thick, comforting consistency that Wetherspoons usually serve. I didn't complain in the restaurant as i didn't want to spoil what was up until then, an enjoyable day. The meal was supposed to be a treat from my friend and i didn't want to seem ungrateful. We were also tired from our shopping trip and i didn't want to risk making my friend late for a meeting arranged for a little later in the evening. It hasn't put me off going to Wetherspoons, but as it will be my treat next time; i'll think twice about going back to the...
Read moreToo large a place to have an atmosphere and when we visited in summer holiday it was more like a kindergarten outing with loads of mums or grandparents and children. We tried to order using the app typed in our order got to the point of pay and the app crashed so then had to go to the bar which had a considerable queue and only one staff member serving both drinks and taking food orders. The app stated food orders were taking 11 minutes but our food did take at least double this before our food arrived. The server was courteous and pleasant and when we asked for extra cutlery only too happy to oblige. The food was tasty 2 of our party had curry one simple the other with nan and popadoms . The other member of our party had hot and spicy chicken with side salad as though stated as avilable on the app when we ordered at the bar the Mediterranean salad we were told was unavailable so who knows what would have arrived had the app worked. The chicken on the whole was tasty with spicy dressing (sriracha) poured over the skin it appeared after cooking. There were some dry overcooked parts of chicken but on the whole ok. The salad was ok with 2 pots of dressing one lemon pepper or thats what it tasted like of salad dressing and for some reason a small ramakin of more sriracha sauce. I appreciate some may just like to eat hot sauce but as the chicken was coated in it and i do like sriracha sauce i feel this was over kill. If you want ok food at a reasonable price a good place to visit so i can understand why so many parents and grandparents go with the young ones.
Toilets were clean but we had a wheelchair user who visited the disabled toilet and when it came to washing his hands soaped his hands up and went to the automated tap which didnt work. He informed the staff who simply said just go use another toilet which wasnt...
Read moreCould I suggest please that someone takes a look at how the smoking area 🚬 is marked outside (signage, boundaries etc) as there appears to be a continuous stream of customers who stand direct outside the doors smoking right next to the non-smoking 🚭 tables. As smoke drifts straight over the non-smoking area, it's no better than being in the smoking area itself when people do this. I would suggest some clear signage outside the exit doors to help resolve this.
Thurs 9th Oct: The only thing consistent with the food is the consistently dirty (barely washed) cutlery. The person before me clearly had used them to eat salad as there were bits of salad on the fork. Very underwhelming food- dried up leather bacon with the Freedom Breakfast and the same in the Breakfast Muffin, which for the first time ever hadn't even been toasted so was just bun bread. Previous days the food has been top notch- what went wrong? Eggs 🍳 hard and had clearly sat for a while. Nearly burnt myself on the tomatoes 🍅 so it appears the rest of the barely warm breakfast had been waiting on those. I know it's cheap but surely the minimum standard anywhere is cleanliness and food components dished up together at the same temperature. Ended up washing the cutlery myself today.
Thurs 16th Oct: Perfect Breakfast Muffin today 👌 and clean cutlery ✨️ 🍽 Unfortunately, a fair few customers still don't realise that some areas outside are non-smoking, e.g just outside the entrance doors.
Saturday 18th Oct: One of the best Breakfast Muffins I've had....
