The food was lovely, couldn't fault it. We had the spicy sausage and goats cheese to start. And the portobello mushrooms and chicken shish for mains. The presentation was lovely and it was tasty and hot. The service was OK... we arrived and they didn't know where to seat us. We were at a table for maybe ten minutes then asked to move as "they'd put us in the wrong place." I asked if we could stay where we were and then just kind of left in limbo. Not sure if we needed to move or not. We ended up downstairs in front of the door heater and on top of a radiator... my goodness, it was HOT. The radiator was burning my thigh, I ended up wedging some napkins there to appease it and the door heater was belting out right behind us. A real sickly heat. The service felt fast, I don't like to hang around in a restaurant but it really did feel like they were turning over covers to fit more in. We arrived at 7pm, had 4 drinks between us, a starter each and a main and had paid the bill by 8.05pm. If you prefer an in and out service this is ideal but I like to sit over a glass of wine and enjoy the anticipation of the food arriving. The bill came to £90. I did think it was a little spendy for an average experience. I'd potentially go again, I preferred the food to Ruya. Next time I'd request a table on the ground floor rather...
Read moreWe went here for the first time tonight. Ideally we would have been seated on the ground floor as this looked like a nice area with a good atmosphere. Unfortunately we were taken downstairs and seated directly next to the toilets. Which you could slightly smell and the hand dryer was being used every few minutes, so disturbing our meal. Completely no atmosphere downstairs, when booking ask for a table on the ground floor.
In the main the service and food was good. Let down by a very average spaghetti bolognese for my daughter.
We would have had a bottle of wine, but chose not to at £25 a bottle. They should have one at around £18.
The waitress didn't want to accept my American Express card for payment, asking if I could pay by other means (Visa, MasterCard or cash). Their card machine does process Amex transactions but I guess they don't like paying the transaction fee. In the end they accepted my Amex card.
It seemed pricey for an average experience. £91 for three people. (3 drinks, 2 starters, 3 mains)
We would return but not...
Read moreMy partner is Gluten free, onion free and garlic free. We have visited twice and it has been great that my partner has had no adverse reaction to the meals he has requested. We have been able to pre-book the day before to enable the restaurant to accommodate my partner's needs and to be honest with his bespoke dietary requirements the Olive House has not failed. They are a lovely, friendly and committed bunch. We went yesterday, having pre-booked my partner's meal. Unfortunately his starter was forgotten and although urgently re-ordered, he was offered a plate of glutened bread, which did concern. We shall definitely go again, but I think they should re-evaluate their menu as two people in the party requested combination shush which came with a vast amount of rice, salad, potatoes but only 2 pieces of lamb and 2 pieces of chicken.. your food is stunning. It's just the combination of foods that needs addressing.. things just need tweaking... Don't give up.. you'll smash this...see you...
