I have been to the pub twice and I think it is only fair if I explain both experiences and how I rate 2/5 overall. That is based on a first experience of 4/5 and the second experience of 1/5.
First experience: 4/5 Sometime in the Winter of 2021. I took one of my children to 'test' the restaurant. The food was great, the range of choice is way better than another pubs. My boy finished a whole adult-sized dish and he was only 4! I also loved the atmosphere as it was busy. The service is something I cannot comment on: order taken, food served reasonably quick, the waitress checked if we needed anything - bog standard, can't blame anything or complain about anything. So let's say it's 'average'. But on the whole we both enjoyed it. My 4-year-old particularly loved the seabass he had, to the extent that every time we asked him where do you want to go for food for a treat, he always said I want that seabass from the robin hood. But because the pub is a bit far from where we live, we did not visit it until much later hence our second experience.
Second experience: 1/5 So I took my family to the restaurant today, arrived at about 6:30. Food ordered, then started the looooooong wait without any information about something went wrong: the order was not picked up by the kitchen for some reason as the 'system' seemed to be not working.
Within the entire 1:30 hours we were there, we had no clue what was going on till very late. We only realised there was a problem in the order processing by overhearing the waitress apologising to the next table next to us and they were there before us for god knows how long. Nobody came to us to explain this directly. My wife went to ask at the bar, and got the same answer. We waited until about 8:10pm and decided that's the end of it. We were both tired let alone our children who'd been starved for over 2 hours. We asked for a refund, and got our money back for the food only, and went for a cheap but quick takeaway on the way back home.
If this does not sound bad to you then let me tell you from a customer service point of view the many things they could have done to make their customers feel 'being care about' they could have sent staff around the tables that are waiting for food to explain the wait if any orders were taken after they knew the delay, they could have warned their customers about the potential wait. And by the way, I did not know if when we made our order, the problem was already known to them. Shame on them if they did. they could have offered a token of apology, such as one free drink per table (staff to take order directly from table to avoid abusing the system) they could have offered a full refund instead of just the food that have not been consumed.
However, they did nothing. This left me feel that they just did not care. In fact, I felt that they actually exploited this - the longer customers wait, the more likely they would buy more drinks and snacks! No doubt, many customers left after a long wait as we noticed those around us were leaving. We followed suit. When we asked for the refund, we spoke to a person that looked like the on-duty manager/supervisor, and his apologies sounded just lukewarm.
So that was my second experience - I took my whole family for a good experience based on my own recommendation because I enjoyed it first, but I disappointed my family. I was only lucky that it was my own family that is closest to me, not my friends or clients.
They say that 'the true test of man's character is adversity' and I think the same analogy can be used for any service-oriented businesses, hence the overall negative rating. I did not feel the 'service' from the restaurant, it was just the food that's probably still worth going for. Buy their takeaways instead if they have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went to The Robin Hood yesterday after work to treat ourselves to a pub meal, the food was great but the enjoyment of it was ruined. Half way though eating our meals the atmosphere turned from being a pleasant local pub to a childrenās playground. Two rough looking couples came in with 3 girls about 7-10 yrs old, they let their children run on the bench seating screaming & shouting with each other like they were at school. We could hear their shouting from the moment they arrived to the moment we left, other diners moved away from them as did we to finish our drinks and leave but even at the farthest area of the pub we could not get away from hearing the continuous noise the girls were making. The staff did nothing about this although a table waiter did say sorry for the noise, what the management should have seen is that other diners came into the area where there were several unoccupied tables and left, the pub will have lost out on this for the sake of them not being willing to say anything. I donāt expect a pub to be a library environment and I donāt expect it to be a childrenās playground either. We felt very much let down buy this and regretted going in the first place after finding it difficult to find an on street parking place nearby, the pub car park was no good for us being on a slope with spaces marked out for the size of miniās ā we saw the driver of an older car parking here let his door hit onto the adjacent car door and did nothing to see if there was any damage. We will not be returning to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOnly gave 1 star as couldn't give 0. 3 adults eating. 3 starters, 1 good, 1 passable and 1 inedible. Literally the chicken with the Katsu dip was that hard, dry and over cooked it was inedible. It looked burnt and it was. The king prawn cocktail was too peppery and looked very bland on the plate. Not served with wholemeal bread as stated, a spice of white bread. Had to wait 25 mins for plates to be collected despite being empty and staff walking up and down. Complained about poor starter. No response. Main arrived, chips on all 3 dishes were cold, not tepid, cold! And had been cooked 3 or 4 times. The steak was over cooked and dry. Complained, steak dish replaced and told they would bring 2 bowls of chips for the others. Which meant eating just fish, and then after 5 mins of finishing the dishes, the chips arrived and so did the steak dish. Very poor service and quality. Won't be visiting again and over rated! Didn't take photos as was too poor, was also a birthday treat. Edit in response to response, I did say that the steak and chips had been replaced, which was good, just meant eating half our meal (fish and chips) at a time as chips didnt arrive for at least 10 mins. We were offered drinks, but as we had just bought some these were not needed. Coffee and puddings were not offered, but we would not have had time to have had these anyway as we had the table for an hour and it took an hour before we were served our first set of mains. Thanks for taking the...
