So happy this place is round the corner from me! Only thing you could fault it on is how busy it is but hear they're moving to a bigger premises soon so happy days. I think the owner supported making the bus lanes in Sharrow safer for pedestrians and cyclists when a majority of business owners in the area wanted to maintain the status quo of Range Rover dodgems. Fair play for them putting their head above the parapet.
Edit - still love Porter Pizza and still gets 5 stars from me but I went in to order a takeaway on a weekend for the first time in a while and was told I had to complete the order online (think this just applies on weekends). This was pretty annoying and website was playing up a bit, ended up having to log into their wifi to sort it. All whilst in front of the till where the staff (very kindly, for what it's worth) wouldn't just take my order. Someone else was also trying to order a load of pizzas as well and I think they got told they had to put in multiple online orders as the system can't cope with larger numbers of pizzas on a single order. I live round the corner and regularly pop down with my partner, order a couple of pizzas to take away, and nip to somewhere like No.3 or The Beer House for a pint whilst they cook. I'll probably avoid doing this on a weekend in future as I'm not a fan of this online system. They were super busy so doubt they'll miss my business but just some feedback from someone who still likes to operate in the analogue. The staff gave us a spoon of gelato whilst we waited and it was incredible, so that went some way to...
Read moreBeen coming here for years and has been an absolute staple when eating out in Sheffield! However, myself and a friend had an awful experience here today. We’d been in 45 mins, eaten our pizza and ordered a drink to finish when the man who owns the company kept hanging around and hinting for us to leave. My friend tried to quickly down her drink as we were made to feel really uncomfortable. He then came over in a very passive aggressive way and asked to leave as there were new customers waiting that he needed to seat - no apology, just sheer frustration/anger at us. We explained we were just trying to finish our drinks and he then exclaimed that it was an odd choice to order drinks after a meal (??) and what did we expect from a Saturday night. It was only when I explained how rude he’d been (and other tables around us started to listen in) that he started trying to offer money back (we’d already paid the bill and tipped). Really bad ending to the night and I’m gutted that such a horrible and rude man owns what I thought was such a lovely local business - huge shame!
Just as a footnote - if you look at the other bad reviews, hilarious reading the owners responses trying to blame customers for their bad experiences. This man has a serious...
Read moreApologies for the lack of photos but the pizza was eaten so quickly there was no chance to take any.
I had the daytime mini pizza special yesterday which was a GENEROUS sized 9" 'Simply Salami' Pizza for SIX QUID which is a really good deal I think especially with the quality on offer.
It's rare to get good Neapolitan in the UK and this was literally PERFECT. The char was great. It was cooked PROPERLY (please take note most other Neapolitan places that serve up raw pizzas drowning in sloppy raw toppings) and the quality of the ingredients was immediately apparent. The sauce was lovely, the cheese amount perfect, the Salami was really tasty and just the right amount.
For me this was the PERFECT Neapolitan, and I don't normally even like Neapolitan as it's generally raw.
I had a chat with the guys who run the place after to say thanks and well done for nailing pizza so well and they were very friendly and approachable. I can't wait to return and have a bigger pizza and try the rest of...
