Christmas Day Meal. Me and my partner along with some friends went to the Boardwalk for our Christmas meal. We were greeted with welcoming friendly faces and was told we could take a seat whenever we were ready. After a quick drink we went up stairs to be meeted with a lovely Christmasy atmosphere and the smell of lovely food. We didn’t have to wait long before our orders began to come out, we all had different choices and each of us were really impressed with what we’d had. The pork belly was too die for and the soup was something really special, after a pleasant sorbet the mains came out. My partner and I had the venison and oh my god I could not believe how good it was, after speaking with the staff we found out this was fresh and locally sourced, the chefs really appreciated the food they were preparing. Our friends had turkey and fish, which looked just as amazing, all freshly cooked with all the trimmings, pigs in blankets, fresh seasonal veg, Yorkshire puds! I couldn’t eat it all but was able to take what I couldn’t eat home for later. Crumbles and creme brûlée’s for desert which I managed to find room for!!! Even after this the food kept coming.. cheese and crackers... port... mince pies... coffee. We really appreciated our Christmas here at the Boardwalk, nothing was too much and everything exceeded our expectations. The food was exquisite and so much attention to detail. £85 was well worth spending on this experience, I’m sure we’ll be there...
Read moreI have to start by saying I hate giving bad reviews, and I won't be one of those people who writes a massive essay rant, so I will just list the positives and negatives. Positives Lovely food Beautiful location Negatives Staff were very rude and dismissive of me and my fiance and chose to walk off as opposed to trying to help find a solution to the problem we were having. my cup of tea arrived nearly 10 minutes after my fiance had her coke so she was finished as I was just about to start my drink. (The table next to us were also suffering this and had to mention it to the staff). After waiting 10 minutes my cup of tea was full of fluff which I assume had been left by a tea towel when not dried properly. I decided against a cup of fluff, and so went to order my fiance drink number 2 and decided to have a vanilla latte instead, this again took an age to appear and when it did it was a normal latte with no vanilla in sight. I decided against waiting again so just asked for some sugar from the bar and had a normal latte. Oh another positive, the latte was nice. the food did take a while to come out but I wouldn't complain about this as they were busy.
If this is read by the venue I'd like to end it with a question, if you are struggling for table room downstairs because you are busy, why did you close the whole upstairs seating area?
Ps, sorry it did become a...
Read moreAfter a pleasant stroll around the marina and a moment or two admiring the beautiful surroundings it was most welcome to enjoy a drink outside and watch the sun set among other people and hearing casual casual cut chat that for almost two years has been absent. How we take the simple pleasures for granted before they are unavailable. How much more we can cherish such while we can. This area is certainly a gem to be savored. Update... Went yesterday all was fine but one big concern I paid £4:75 for a pint of Guinness with blackcurrant (no problem with that) but then got charged £2.50 for half a pint of soda water with a shot of blackcurrant (same as I had in the Guinness) which is just carbonated water with a sliver of blackcurrant cordial. Making it £5 a pint. Am I missing something? I understand that there may be variations from place to place but the Rescue rooms next to Rock City charge £0.20 for a PINT of the same drink. With a variation from place to place. Don't get me wrong I had a great time and all the boxes were tickled in the right places it's just that it put an unnecessary damper on what should have been a perfect day. Such practices are self defeating because when such care is taken to build up a great rapport only to demolish it at the end with such a seemingly miserly gesture. Not a good way to get...
