Quite expensive for a relatively small portion of ice cream, but that's to be expected for an independent gelateria. My daughter had the blueberry, but didn't like it. In our opinion, the Blueberry didn't really taste like blueberry - it reminded me more of a forest fruits sorbet. Very intense flavour but not the expected texture of a creamy ice cream. My partner's ice cream, which was the ricotta one, also didn't taste like we expected it to. My mint cacciatore ice cream was tasty, and I liked the way the chocolate was incorporated in the cacciatore as flaked slivers rather than the hard chunks you get in mint choc chip ice cream, but again, very small portion for the price.
I previously mentioned the server was quite grumpy, but I'll acknowledge that it was very busy and warm. I tried to engage in short conversation, saying I was tempted by the pistachio and hoping for possibly a recommendation from the gentleman behind the counter, but it felt like they just wanted us out as quickly as possible. I was surprised, as previous reviews I had read before going said how chatty and friendly they were, and how they'd offer a small taster if you were unsure what to choose. I know it can be stressful in customer-facing roles and it's hard to maintain a cheerful persona at all times, so I'll chalk this up to bad timing.
We will give Delphini's another try next time we are in Totnes and as long as it's quieter.
edited: Delphini's offered us a full refund, but we know how difficult it is for businesses at the moment, so we won't ask for our money back. Amended elements of the review, and upped to 3* as it wasn't bad, it just didn't live up to our expectations based on all the...
Read moreA place you MUST visit if you’re in Devon! Visited this place after trying quite a few different Ice cream places around Devon, and I can honestly say Delphini’s Gelato is exceptionally delightful that you cannot compare it to any other shops/small businesses as it exceeds all others! From various flavours to choose from, we went for mint chocolate chip, and a combo of dark Belgian chocolate and pistachio. All three were pact with wholesome quality flavour and the cones that went with was worth every penny! Reasonably priced and well worth the trip. We were served by Johan who made our day with his outstanding service, after serving us we said our goodbyes and headed for the shops, with one lick of the gelato we turned right round and headed back to Delphini’s to buy take home tubs. Johan went the extra mile and exceeded our expectations and we’re finally able to share his irresistible Gelato with our extended family in London! Thank you and Robin for making our day and visit to Totnes a memorable moment - one that we won’t forget and hopefully be back for more next year!

Read moreHaving saw a recent article on Devonlive about this place being number 1 in Devon based on customer reviews, I thought I’d pop along to Totnes (only 20 odd minutes from where i live) and check this place out.
Usually a regular at the Orange Elephant, I’m finding their ice creams to be lacking in real punchy flavour, even though they have a great selection. I’m getting a tad bored of their ice creams. And I’ve had way better (Rubys in Marazion Cornwall comes to mind).
Anyhoo Delphinis is a tasty delight and although not a huge selection of ice cream, the flavours are bang on tasty. I had a double cone with Cherry flavour and Pistachio. The Cherry ice cream had some real good size cherries in it which really added to the overall taste and the pistachio was a great combo with the cherry flavour.
I would say Delphinis is better quality ice cream than Orange Elephant and better flavoured too.
The two gals serving were smiley & friendly and welcoming.
Will definitely...
