We go in here everytime we come to Dartmouth. The standard and choice of food is outstanding. The owners have meticulous attention to detail and are the perfect hosts. The selection of olives is wonderful and they also cater for gluten free customers. The coffee preparation is second to none and is always very tasty. They do various breads, a variety of which we had with our spicy soup which was up there with the best ever. It's not the biggest place and if you like privacy this is not the place for you. They have a selection of daily papers to read whilst enjoying a piece of cake or a breakfast or brunch....or just a refreshing cuppa. Anything goes!

What a truly great little place this is. We went in twice during our stay in Dartmouth and really enjoyed it on both occasions. The first time we went in for a hot drink and a cake and the second time we had a light lunch. It's sort of half deli and half eatery. It's got such a good relaxed vibe about it and the food and drink is delicious. It's the sort of place you could easily spend time in. It is quite small though so getting a table requires luck or timing or both! From our perspective, this was one of the nicest informal places to eat in the town. Great food, lovely service and a relaxing place to be.

Lovely small cafe with a huge range of food and drinks. The presentation is very smart and the decor very rustic and classy. The flat white coffee was the best I’ve tasted in the area and we were all very impressed by the lovely Olive section in the centre of the cafe. I would highly recommend Smith Street Cafe and Deli to anyone who wants to have a relaxing drink and nibble in beautiful Dartmouth.

First visit to the SSD was with our dog. Quite understandably, being a Deli of some repute, we were told, in no uncertain terms, dogs are not allowed - we left, chastened and embarrassed. A few weeks on, and with the Wood Roast Coffee shop closed, I returned (without dog). After completing some obviously important admin tasks, the server acknowledged my presence and asked if my flat white was to have-in or take away. I confirmed “have-in”, only to be told I couldn’t drink-in until after 2:30pm. My request to drink on one of the pavement seats was acknowledged, although crockery is not...
