The Gurkhas — Restaurant in South Kesteven

Having booked on line and received a confirmation. We arrived to find we were not in “the book”. Very frosty reception from front of house lady. When I showed my confirmation she unsmilingly showed us to a table in the back of the restaurant, away from the rest of the diners. No atmosphere and not warm. After some time a waiter appeared and we ordered 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 rice and a bottle of wine. Order all taken together and not asked for drinks first. Starter came. Very tough chicken strips in a very odd sauce. Mains came. We both had the same. Prawn Makhani - 4 prawns in an insipid tasteless sauce - we were told they’d “dumbed” the sauce down as my partner said his starter was too spicy. They never asked me if I wanted mine “dumbing down” too ! All in all a poor experience We love good food and don’t mind paying but £107 for 2 for what we had was overpriced and extremely disappointing. A quiet Tues night before Christmas. Really quiet til a late night boozed up group arrived at 9.45pm. The restaurant was pleasantly attractive for Christmas and its food culture. We sat to the rear and it was quite cold. By the time we left the four of us were ready for our coats. A large menu and we all ate starters and then chose three mains, two ruce and two nans. Starters were crispy squid nice and well cooked. Mains we chose varied. Not overly hot in terms of steamy heat so cool very quickly and as we shared this wasnt ideal. The nans n rice were hot and well cooked. The fish curry was superb creamy, delicate coconut base. The goat curry was disappointing and the sauce uninspiring. The duck roast again was quite tough and not a sign of pinkness!!!! Overcooked. We ate the lot. Coffee was strong and kept me awake til past 1.00 am. Be warned. The tip was already added to the bill. I would give no stars if I could. Possibly the worst service I have experienced in a long time. They gave away our booking which was booked a month in advance for 8 of us, despite comfirming twice and being on time. A rather embarrassing situation then ensued while they tried to ask the other party to move (who quite rightly refused) and then scrambled together a table in the back where the tables didn't meet properly. We then waited over one hour to get drinks as they were arguing over what was going to be complimentary, over two hours to get any food, and the manager didn't have a clue and disappeared most of the night. It wasn't what I would call a packed restaurant either. It appeared the owner was controlling things from where he was on holiday according to the manager! We would have spent a fair bit of money as a group as we were celebrating but we ended up walking out it was that bad. Would not recommend...total...
