I haven’t lived in Wallingford for very long, and so I haven’t had much of a chance to sample the local food/restaurants/cafes. This morning, I was walking up the high street and strolled past the quaintest little cafe, Mollie’s. As I walked in, I was greeted by the sound of wonderful music, and a very stylised, very British aesthetic with just the slightest touch of a wholesome hippie vibe.
I was served by a very warm and kind lady (I didn’t catch her name, maybe this was the famous Mollie, the cafe’s namesake); I ordered an iced coffee, and 2x breakfast baps (bacon, egg, and sausage). I sat down in a very comfy sofa, waiting for my food whilst taking in the wonderful atmosphere. I barely touched my phone, I just sat and absorbed the vibes!
I was brought my coffee, and told that my food would soon be ready. The coffee was absolutely delicious, I’m a snob when it comes to coffee, especially iced coffee. Let me tell you - this coffee was rich and creamy, perfect milk to coffee ratio that many places don’t get quite right.
When my food was ready, I was offered a bag, which I accepted, and I was on my merry way. I’ve just finished eating my bap, and I’m sold on this little cafe. The bacon, sausage, and eggs were perfectly cooked. The egg was cooked well but with a fantastically gooey runny yolk, the bacon was crispy and chewy, not undercooked, not overcooked, and the sausages were flavourful. This was served in a soft, wholemeal bun.
The food was great, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was fantastically quaint and British. I can’t quite describe it, but I felt more in Britain inside that cafe than I have in my day to day life for the longest time.
Mollie’s cafe, I shall indeed be returning, you’ve gained a new long-term customer.
PS - the home compostable Bee napkins...
Read moreTurned up with my youngest for a breakfast, seeing as we were in town. Lived here a while and not been to Mollies, so figured it was high time I gave it a go.
Opted for the Bunkfest Breakfast minus the black pudding as its not our thing. Also ordered two teas and two orange juices. Wasn't prepared for the 45 minute wait (I think we might have been forgotten, to be honest as we were seated in the back terrace/garden). The café wasn't busy either.
Tea was smashing as was the orange juice. Breakfast - when it came - was really flavoursome. Bacon and sausages were lovely and the mushrooms were cooked perfectly. Golden fried egg and cooked tomatoes on the vine were superb. Enjoyed the toasted tiger bloomer too which was cut to lovely doorstep proportions. I guess a hash brown or two might have really finished this meal off wonderfully. Condiments would have also been a nice touch.
Only giving 3 stars because: the long 45 minute wait a really unkempt back dining area (kinda felt like I'd walked in on a mums and tots group as there were kids toys and play sand slung everywhere) toilets were not to a nice standard (water supply hard to manage and a grubby cerise pink hand towel instead of more hygienic paper towels)
I'm sure Mollie's could be fab. Sure, the food is fantastic, but - and this is said with only good intent - the general unkempt and untidy nature of the place and the long waiting times do knock the lustre off what would otherwise be a...
Read moreThis place is so cute! I was rushing to a baby class and realised I didn’t have lunch sorted for today (I’m a nanny, living my daily life like anyone would with a little one to consider) so I popped in and asked if they could prepare me a super healthy salad for an hours time- no onions, I chose my topping of pulled pork with apple and was on my way. After the class I returned and there it was, absolutely jam packed with salad, seeds, avocado and the topping. I scoffed it down whilst the little one was persuading himself he didn’t need a nap- you know the running back and forth in his cot scenario. But it didn’t matter, I’d eaten and it was delicious! I will be going back as often as I’m visiting Wallingford!...
