Toney Minchella @ whitburn — Restaurant in South Tyneside

A mix up by staff resulted in one ice cream being thrown away while the other (a wafer) was held in the hands of an old woman while a new order was placed and rectified. It took a few minutes so after paying and asking for sauce, I noticed the wafer was seriously melting.

When I pointed this out the old woman said "it's melting because it's hot and it's windy"!! The sea fret is in and it's definitely not hot and nor is it windy. It melted because she held it in her hands for far too long!

I go to Minchellas frequently and have never had an ice cream melt so quickly under hot conditions. The least she could do was apologise but customer service was non existent! I ended up having to wolf it down in a minute, while my mother's ice cream was fine, and it ended up all over my hands, legs and the car!!

I returned to the kiosk and requested napkins and told her it had melted because she held it so long at which point she replied that she could have given me another one! I told her it was too late after already eating it, (without pleasure as it was melting so quickly) and still there was no apology!

I don't blame the younger girl who made the error but you shouldn't employ old people who are no longer with it and if an error occurs, have the grace to apologize...

My husband and I adore visiting the beach, and there's nothing better than finishing up (or starting) with an excellent coffee and a fabulous pistachio ice cream (my absolute favourite)

We've been popping in here for the last couple of year since we moved back from the South, and we absolutely love it. For me, Minchella's has been synonymous with icecream at the beach since I was small.

My husband is italian (#icecreamsnob) and he attests to the quality of the icecream and the coffee. Me? I just love icecream, so this is a heavenly place as there's lots of deliciousness to choose from.

The cafe itself is like going back in time. It's a bit 80s with the mint green and pink colour scheme but that in no way detracts from the enjoyment.

So, if you're a fan of a decent coffee, a tasty icecream and a walk on a Northern beach, I recommend that you give...

Outside setting no toilets or indoor seats but what a fantastic place to be at! We had the nicest time sat in the sun 🌞 with our yummy ice-creams ....I have to say the cappuccino here is actually one of the best I've had and also was very reasonably priced too! Staff are canny and professional service was on point! The venue itself was clean and great for watching the world go by - can't wait to go...
