Alex Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Southampton

Let me start by saing the Food is nice but most workers in this chip shop are under the age of 16, Prices are a bit extreme and manager is all for hygine but will not put the effort in to make sure it is clean himself, he talks to the staff like they are toddlers and they dont know what they are doing when they are more on top with the hygine than he is. Overall the atmosphere is pretty toxic as there are 2 managers one punches the workers in the stomach or in the arm and the other manager just sits on his phone at the front of the shop or sits just in sight of the front of the shop eating. the manager that sits on his phone is very disrespectful and treats all the workers as if they are 4 years old. One worker stood up to him and said stop talking to me like im a todler as i went to go in and this gave me a vibe of a very toxic environment at this point in time. Two regular cod & chips and 2 curry sauces were ordered; 2 regular cod & chips is advertised as £17.99 whereas I was charged the normal price of £9.99 each. Total cost should've been £21.99; I couldn't see anywhere on the menu that the £17.99 deal was a lunchtime deal only however the shop "has the right to discontinue deals, change prices, etc." Even so, at the 'normal prices', I should've been charged £23.96; I was charged £24.00. I won't grumble over 4 pence... however... The cod was freshly cooked and was quite nice despite the four bones I picked out of my mouth in the first two mouthfuls. The chips could've been better ~ resembled as cooked and then recooked. The curry sauce had the same consistency as water and very little, if any taste. Overall it was quite a disappointing meal. Will we try it again? Probably not. Will we recommend this fish and chip shop to family and friends?...

Great food! Not like most other chip shops that make you wake up in the night dying for water with fish grease sweating out of your pores. Their kebabs aren't quite on the level as a dedicated kebab shop (I judge harshly, being somewhat of a self-professed Keb-expert) but they are perfectly edible. Also, the staff are friendly and they GET THE ORDER RIGHT. Seriously when KFC with ots complex epos system can continually get a £30 order wrong over and over, the guys at Alex put them to shame.
