Costa Coffee — Restaurant in St Helens

To start the review I will explain a few things first.

Not a regular of these overpriced coffee shops, had an opinion about them prior to walking in.

I only went in as I had to wait for an hour for my bike to be fixed in Evans cycles, was cold out and thought I would grab a coffee and watch the world go by.

Instead, bought a coffee, had to clear the table myself, as you can see Im not the only one, other customers doing the same (see picture, crossed out face for privacy).

Staff 100% focused on revenue, been here for 40 minutes and not been from behind counter once to clean, collect or move dirty dishes from tables, ledges or other flat surfaces.

Third member of staff appears and quickly goes behind counter to serve rather than clear tables.

For a premium brand the cleanliness is terrible.

Coffee tastes ok though.

Maybe I picked a particularly bad time on early Sunday afternoon but every occupied and vacant table is dirty.

Absolutely disgusting came in Costa as was leaving Emma screaming at me as I'm outside the door in front of customers so unprofessional I entered the store to talk to this Emma who continued to shout at me telling me I had to leave all remaining customers looking at me as Emma was trying to embarrass me and also denied shouting at me from across restaurant I asked to speak to the manager to which she said you won't be speaking to anyone but me now leave I asked again for manager who begrudging gave me Sarah's name who I will speaking to raising a formal complaint If that's how a member of your staff speaks to a member ofa business who works on the retail park I dread to think how she speaks to the customer We spend between us nearly 1000 a week in that Costa I will ensure no member of staff from our company ever returns to this...

Always had a great experience at this costa and think it’s the best one in St Helens. The staff are always extremely nice and welcoming, the food is nice, and drinks are always spot on. This time we got 2 hot chocolates and they were great.

The atmosphere in there can be a bit loud but it’s never unpleasant or uncomfortable, you are normally able to get a seat, it’s generally clean and tidy, the staff to the best to keep cleaning the tables but then it’s busy it can sometimes take a few minutes and this is to be expected.
