Laurel Inn — Restaurant in Staffordshire Moorlands

This is the worst chinese I've ever had. Started with an order 2 years ago where I ordered shredded chilli beef. Wasnt beef it was chicken, absolute nightmare and after calling them, they offered nothing, but wanted to argue with me. Plus ordered delivery online & charged me but told me had to collect. Anyway 2 years later decided to order again as I believe in 2nd chances, so from the menu it shows no sauce, as others do.(same order plus satay veg) OMG the shredded beef came with a sauce not dry and it was disgusting, the satay sauce with veg was so watery it looked like sick. However did deliver this time. I called them 4 better food 2 be delvered but again they would't redeliver the items to a standard we all want when ordering a takeaway. They were argumentive and rude. Even a refund would of been nice of them but no eat ehat you bought & suck it up!!! Shame i didnt take pictures of the food at the time. Ordered from here last night, knew it had a 1 star food hygiene rating but ordered from here because it was recommended.

Glad I did… it was phenomenal. The rice was delicious, ordered the Singapore Fried Rice, the meat was lovely, big cuts of NON processed char su. The meat tasted really fresh which is unusual for a Chinese. The rice was fluffy, the veg still had crunch, the satay sauce didn’t develop the traditional microwaved skin that most takeaways supply. The veg spring rolls were crispy and the prawn crackers were fresh and crispy.

Asked for chopsticks and they kindly supplied at no extra charge, and they were the environmentally friendly bamboo variety.

I’ve worked in food my entire adult life and it’s hard to get anything less than a 5 star, nor is there any excuse to get less than a 5 star. However that being said, we all have bad days and in my opinion they got really really unlucky because their food is exceptional and easily the best Chinese food I’ve had. Terrible service. Never going here again. FoodHub said 1hr wait time which is fine but we waited nearly 2 hours and called numerous times so we asked to cancel the order but they said “you can’t cancel your order because it’s with the driver” luckily we chose cash payment option and driver took the food back. The person on the other end of the phone was just a child!! and when we asked to speak to the boss we were told “the boss is busy.” The child kept just kept saying things like “all the other people have to wait” and “we are busy” etc. I’ve had plenty of takeaways in my years and this is by far the worst service...
