My wife and I recently rediscovered the "Cheshire Line" and since my retirement I think we've had Lunch one a week at least. Sometimes Twice.. we were very impressed with the Quality of the Food, I'd like to compliment the Chef, his "Chicken Tikka Curry" is Second to none. The Staff are Always very Engaging and extremely Pleasant. We had Guests from the U.S.A. and the "Line" was our Choice of venue to treat our visitors to Lunch, which I may add was Excellent. Our American Cousin tasted Halloumi for the 1st Time and is Hooked.. (I've heard on the Grapevine, I'm being treated to Lunch there for my upcoming Birthday) we recently had "The Carvary" for Sunday Lunch, Most satisfying.. Thanks to the Staff for Making our EVERY visit thoroughly enjoyable. See ya Sunday 😉

It has been a few years since my last visit. The pub sits between Cheadle High Street and Wetherspoons Gateway pub. Poor access on foot from Cheadle as pavement only on one side and crossing over can be near suicidal at busy times. The pub is indeed a converted railway station. It shares the large car park with the excellent Golden Days garden centre. Came with Eric's German cousin Albrecht. Sadly only one real ale on out of 4 handpumps. A good pint of Marston's Pedigree. Think they also had Bank's last time. Popular food destination. Pub grub, steaks etc. Nice front terrace though the M60 motorway noise is a constant backdrop. Otherwise you could be in the country.

We dropped in here yesterday (Sunday) for a bite of lunch while visiting the garden centre next door. The carvery is I believe the best in the area, I don't know another that offers 5 different meats as well as a fish option. It's also extremely good value for money. We had to sit outside as we had our puppy with us, but this was no hardship on a very warm afternoon, and the area is covered too. A selection of cask ales compliments a well stocked bar and the carvery was excellent. Well known by locals, it's always pretty busy here but if you were not aware of it I can highly recommend.

We were there to celebrate a friends birthday and her completing a fundraiser for a cancer charity

The food was ok and the only member of staff who had the slightest bit of customer service skills in them was the man serving on the carvery

One member of our party had ordered a chicken burger it was served like the waitress was playing knock a door run...before she had a chance to ask for mayo she was gone! She then asked a passing waiter for some to which she was told to wait a minute I could understand if the restaurant was busy but it wasn't! In all my time I have never had to ask for sauce I have always been asked do I need anything else and to enjoy the meal

After being given the bill we then sat there like spare parts waiting for someone to come over to take payment if one of us hadn't had gone up to the bar I think we would still have been sat there now! Whilst waiting at the bar she enjoyed hearing the staff talking negatively about other tables they seemed more interested in slagging off customers than serving someone waiting over 5 minutes to pay.

I feel at this point I need to stress again it wasn't particularly busy.

When it came to settling the bill is where I have to express my concern for the waitresses welfare because she did a lot of huffing and puffing I can only assume her asthma was playing up?

We felt the service up to this point warranted a tip and we rounded up our portion of the bill to reflect this however this seemed to be a huge inconvenience?

Each time we stepped up to pay she sighed and God forbid someone wanting to pay cash they were belittled to the back of the group!

A few were planning on staying for a few drinks but a night with Satan was more appealing after this experience so we moved on to the Ashlea

With the unhappy staff you have it might be worth rebranding from the Cheshire Line to the Cheshire Whine

Update I have called twice to speak to the manager called Stephen. Was told he wasn’t available earlier and to call back an hour later. Just called to be told he isn’t available he is upstairs and what was it regarding? When I explained it was about a recent visit she offered to take a message but couldn’t guarantee I would be called or to try again tomorrow morning? Yet another example of poor...

We visited at 14:00 on a Sunday afternoon recently for a carvery and found place half empty and nobody queuing for the carvery which was surprising for a Sunday. We ordered a meat and a veggie carvery. Before we went up the large group on the table next too us were complaining with the Manager about the food quality and refusing to pay. We went up for our food. The carvery had a large beef joint, the tail end of a dried up turkey joint and a medium piece of gammon that looked very dried up. On eating we found the beef was so tough it would not cut with serrated knife and the turkey dry and crumbly. The roast potatoes were all totally white and undercooked, the other veg was similar and undercooked and tough. The gravy, in a small gravy boat, was so thick we could turn it upside down. We asked to complain to the Manager. Three other tables complained whilst we were there too. The Manager Stephen, removed our uncooked meals and agreed not to charge us for the mains. He asked if we wanted a dessert but said not to have the sticky toffee pudding as wasnt good and too powdery. He then failed to bring any dessert menus, later saying he forgot. Even though the food and service were awful he was adamant we had to pay £11 for two drinks and said to the others complaining and to us that we should put a bad review on to improve their service. A strange thing for a Manager to do rather than resolving it himself. All the food should have been removed and replaced but was left on the servery. Worst dining experience I can...

Went for a very poor Sunday roast dinner six weeks ago . The card machine offered to my husband asked if he wanted to leave a tip, not being ones to complain my husband thought he was rounding up the amount to £34.00 . The machine actually took this amount as a tip . The staff said they couldn’t just refund this and would have to send in a form to head office . We have called in several times since , manager is never there although his car is sat outside the pub and we were told he would ring us . Still waiting ! Staff couldn’t tell us if the form had gone to head office or not so we emailed Marstons twice on two separate email addresses . Not even a response . We have used this pub for many years and have always been happy with the food and the price . However the quality of the food has greatly reduced . The beef on the carvery can not be even cut with a sharp knife , it was brisket that had been roasted and was full of fat , the choice of veg was depleted and nothing like it used to be . This was not a one off , we had the same quality of dinner a couple of months earlier and thought we would give them another try only to be disappointed again and then be ripped off because of the mistake with the card machine . Disappointment with Cheshire Line and equally so with Marstons , a substandard meal and overcharged £30.00 for...
