I ate some of the food before I took pics 😅, bit that's clear from the gaps on the plate hopefully.
I went in last weekend on the spur of the moment, parking was easy in the layby outside, lots of spaces.
We was sat down quite quickly. Drinks and Prawn Crackers was at the table within a few minutes. The Large soft drinks at £4 are huge glasses that farmhouse Carvery do, they are well over a pint. (See pic with hand next to it). The person with me only wanted water, so they brought a large water jug over with plenty of ice (see pic).
If your not sure what to order they do basically 3 different starters platters, which contain 2 of each thing per person. They do a salt and pepper based platter, a standard mix of everything and a more mild platter without any spicy stuff.
I tried the standard mixed and the salt n pepper mixed. The salt n pepper items was chicken pieces, chicken wings, spare ribs and something else haha. On the on spicy it includes ok sauce spare ribs, BBQ ribs in syrup or BBQ sauce, 2 types of spring roll, small veg ones and larger meat, wontons, prawn toast and more. See the pics haha.
You can order individual starters as well, after my mains I fancied more prawn toast and wontons, there was no problem going back to starters after mains either.
The mains was pretty large portions, the table next to us was saying they heard the portions was small, so they orders 4 mains, 2 sides and 2 specials and their table was rammed haha.
I would say the portions are about 2/3 the size of a take away portion. I ordered the king prawn mixed veg, special fried rice, and special mixed udon, which is technically 3 main dishes and the waitress still asked if wanted a side like noodles or rice. The person with me had the king prawn in broccoli and oyster sauce, mixed chow mein and chips. (Pics of most of it).
If I had to pick 1 or 2 things which I would change or like different, I wish the ribs was the extra cooked style (like Char Sui). I did mention this to the manager and she told they are available on the take out menu but not the buffet, and I like my chips more chunky/thick but that's personal preference for me.
It's worth noting that, if you want to make small changes to what's on the menu the staff are more than accomodating. The table next to us asked for the special chow mein with no veg, we asked for the special mixed udon (which isn't on the menu). I think the table over from us has plain chicken bites (half way between nuggets and popcorn chicken) and plain chicken wings for their kid too.
Don't take the Mick and you can ask them to modify things slightly.
When I have tried the take out, I'll add a second review, it's also worth noting, the manager also said on the banquet you can change the meals too, as everything is made fresh, changes are...
Read moreCalled for a collection and told to come in 15 minutes. When I arrived i was told it would be another 10/15 minutes which wasn’t a big deal as I’d rather collect it as soon as it’s out the fryer rather than it sat there. They said I could wait inside or in my car. When I said I’d wait in my car (that was literally outside the front door), they asked me which car I’d be in, which I assumed meant they’d come and notify me when it was ready. After 25 minutes of waiting in the car I went in to ask if it was ready and they gave me the order straight away. I asked why no one notified me as I assumed that’s why they asked what car I was in and they said the staff member who I spoke to didn’t notify them regarding me waiting outside. I asked if the order had been sat there long and they confidently said it hadn’t.
Getting home everything was cold and stale, called and they said they’d replace it all if I brought the food back. Drive back and wait in the car again and they did replace the order quite quickly with no apology, giving me boiled rice instead of fried, and not including the spring rolls. Real shame as I’m sure I just caught them at a busy evening which is fair enough, but they lied on the phone saying someone came out to look for me which deffo wasn’t true as the staff told me the server forgot to...
Read moreIf your looking for quantity over quality then i suppose this is the place for you. Usual canteen set up you expect from these places, so dont expect a nice quiet table in the corner of the diner. All in all the food was bland & sub standard. Starters for e.g are pre fried chicken covered in different sauces. Same goes for the ribs. Samosa's are just mostly pastry. Salt & pepper chicken tasteless popcornish chicken. Same popcornish chicken used over & over for Lemon chicken ( sauce looked putrid ) sweet & sour chicken ( weak sauce/one small cube of green pepper ). Special dishes are not special at all, were talking bland rice 2 varieties, very little meat in both. Beef blackbean sauce not great, chicken curry not great. I enjoyed the plate of chips more than anything. What shocked me most was the woman who served us, i witnessed her cleaning the toilet without gloves. She then came straight over & cleared the table. On that note my partner who's usually toilet shy had to use the loo while i was paying. There was nothing solid about that, The train passed right through the station without stopping. All in all a miserable meal...
