Funky Monkey — Restaurant in Stockport

Avoid if you are gluten free or have any allergy! Staff are clearly not clued up. Went today, me and my dad ordered the same thing, but obviously I ordered mine gluten free. When the food arrived, I asked which one it was and the waiter said it looks like the gluten free one. It didn't look gluten free so I asked her to check with the kitchen. Another member of staff overheard and said it was gluten free. I still wasn't convinced so waited until my Dads food came over, which was brought by another member of staff. His plate looked gluten free so I asked the waiter to check as I had been told my plate was gluten free. She told me that if I was told it was gluten free, then it was the gluten free one. I then insisted she went back to the kitchen to check and it was infact not gluten free. They didn't seem that bothered about the potential harm they almost caused me and that 3 members off staff gave me incorrect information.

Gutted cause I have always felt safe...

Food was great, when it eventually arrived. We ordered breakfasts with coffee. Coffee arrived quickly, although my wife's, very hot, drink arrived in a handleless glass so had to ask for it to be put into a cup. Table next to ours was given their food soon after we ordered ours. They ate and left then another couple sat there, and ordered, before our food arrived. Coffee was long since finished and I had to ask a waitress where our food was and she got it sorted out within a few minutes. Slightly galling that the second couple to sit at the table next to us received their food within moments of ours arriving....they had almost the same order as us too. Made me wonder if the kitchen waits for a stack of breakfast orders before batch-cooking them! Anyway, the food was very nice and good size portions (reflected in the prices but that's fine), staff were lovely, polite and attentive. Don't get me wrong. I love going to Funky Monkey. I'm local and been going to there for years.

When its quiet its a great place to be but it turns into Grumpy Monkey when its busy. The table layouts mean that when it gets mildly busy its full. Last time went in got a seat at the high breakfast style tables but its was bloody awful atmosphere. Kids toys under foot, shoulder to shoulder. More like Stuffed than Funky Monkey...

My advice is to replace the big long tables with two people smaller tables and combine them into the table layouts. The sofa is bloody uncomfortable to eat at and a waste of good space. The place is too small and popular to have a lounging area.

The food is excellent the staff friendly and accommodating and is Dog friendly.
