I stayed here for one night on business and was given room 142. I am sure it was the room furthest away from reception but hey ho, off I went in my search.||After some wiggling about of my electronic door key (It didnāt seem to work whichever way I put it in: I really didnāt want to walk all the miles back to reception), I got into my room and was pleasantly surprised.||The room had a double bed and a small double so I had a choice of sleeping arrangements. I donāt understand it though when there is clearly only one occupant, why they are given more than one bed. Perhaps in case I change my mind in the night?||The room was very large with duel aspect windows.|Whilst the decor/furnishings appear very tired and in need modernisation the room was clean and warm. |I had a large bathroom with shower and bath, but no shower curtain which I thought a little odd however I did notice a drain in the floor so I guessed it was ok.||I went to the brasserie for an evening meal and enjoyed a superb Indian starter and main: I had the chilli masala king prawns for main which was delicious. Highly recommended.||Satisfied I returned to my room and lay on the bed to read. ||The bed was not the greatest and a bit like a hammock, certainly in need of a mattress replacement. |That night I didnāt sleep very well and woke early which was a good job as at 06.30 the fire alarms went off. |I was just putting on my shoes when they stopped so I guessed there was no fire. Had I been asleep this would have been a rude awakening but not as rude as no fire alarms and a real fire! One of those things and comforting to know they work.||Overall good food, and a clean and comfortable hotel. I have certainly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe bar service are always friendly. I have gone here for years, and noticed (from how all the bar staff talk about him) that the chef is an arrogant, mediocre cook. From being incapable of ordering sour cream to go with the chili con carne (each time I've asked over the last 3 months he's apparently 'just ran out'), to always wanting to be out if the building by 8pm at the latest (they apparently serve food until 8pm but have been unable to place an order at 7:40pm on a number of occasions).
I've previously sent a chicken burger back as it was so overcooked it was hard. He eventually sent my replacement meal out, with his apologies. I was told by the waitress I should be honoured I got an apology as he never does that. Honoured? No I'm just glad to be getting an edible meal, as I requested.
My suggestions to this pub are:
I've eaten my last meal here and will find 'honour' at a more capable establishment in Stockport...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe rooms are done up to look good in photos, they are clean internally. The entrance stairs were filthy, and the beergarden/rear exit way was dirty. There was black ice all over the pathway to the rear external exit, customers would have no choice but to cross it when leaving via that route. In the event of a fire this would have been a disaster. Staff were informed but only put an ineffective cleaning sign in the middle of the ice. Cigarette butts frozen in the black ice. |The outer doors and rear gate were left unlocked overnight. The room was cold, bedding was not sufficient, the heating was noisy. The staff said they had nothing to do with the rooms. Gave me a dirty blanket when I explained I was cold because they had nothing else to give me. No cups with the kettle, no remote for the TV, staff couldn't locate it. There is no food available. It was not possible to contact anyone after the pub finished trading. This was a...
