Horrible.
I was in there tonight and there was a live band and they were great. But that's where it ends.
I was stood at the bar for a solid 25 minutes waiting to be served. Several people came after me and were served before me.
I was acknowledged at least 5 times by the 2 barmaids and ignored.
There was a man stood next to me, must have been a regular, who pointed me out to the two barladies and said "he's been waiting a while can you serve him next". One girl in cargo trousers said yes and then ignored him, serving other people, the other girl, blonde with a red top, shrugged and continued to serve other people too.
When the blonde barlady looked at me 10 minutes later, I asked if I could get served as I'd been waiting ages. She shook her head and said "I'm not serving that side of the bar" in a tone as if I'd insulted her. I asked if someone else could serve me and she just looked around and shrugged. Didn't even help. A few seconds later a guy walked to the bar and picked up 2 bitters without even asking for them. Regulars come first I guess.
Meanwhile, there was a man behind the bar who said I looked like a character from a show and laughed. It was not a compliment.
So all in all, I was knowingly left waiting by two insanely rude barmaids for at least 20 minutes, and insulted. And I still paid for my drinks.
I know that these reviews mean nothing to busy pubs, and my custom means nothing in the grand scheme of things. But if the landlady/landlord is reading this, know that you have two extremely rude and ignorant barmaids and an atmosphere that is fit for regulars only.
I understand it was a busy night - but I was visually ignored several times, outright refused once, and verbally insulted. And I wasn't even drunk (I am writing this review after having got home). And I don't complain much at all, so it has taken me a lot to do this.
I'll never, ever visit that pub again. I'm insulted and upset. And that's not how you should feel walking out of a pub. Possibly the worst bar experience...
Read moreFronting the busy A6 road, this comfortable and welcoming pub has been created out of two shop units. The exterior has full-height windows either side of the entrance; these can be opened in warmer weather to create a cafe feel to the place. Inside you will find exposed structural steelwork married to bare brick walls, and sanded wooden flooring; these are coupled to displays of clocks (none showing the right time, incidently), bookshelves, old radios, and plenty of mirrors. Two wood-burning stoves add warmth in cooler periods. The front room has a mix of dining room furniture and sofas, then down three steps you get to the "Snubbery" which is a more intimate and relaxing space - this has sofas and coffee tables. This also gives access to the toilets, and to the outside drinking yard, dubbed the "Courtyard". A TV above the front room fireplace usually shows music videos. Weekends see entertainment in the form of a DJ soul and Motown evening on Friday, and live artists performing on Saturdays. Lunchtime food is planned for the future. History: opened on 14/5/18 in former betting...
Read moreThe atmosphere was great , went to celebrate a birthday and the live band was amazing. However the staff behind the bar refused to serve me because I was not over 25 . I had shown my ID to prove I was over 18. I know the Challenge 25 rule is a safe way to make sure that no one under 18 is buying alcohol . Until a manager came and allowed me to get a drink the bar staff were having none of it and being quite rude . There are no signs to say anyone under 25 cannot drink there and were serving other people the same age as me and i had proven my age . All my friends were served instantly other than me . I had a nice time in The Wellington other than this incident . I would of understood if I was highly intoxicated and was causing a scene but I was patiently waiting . I hope to come back again soon because I love the decor and especially the...
