The BEST venue!
The heart of any establishment is it's staff. This is what makes The Spinning Top, not only special, but an incredible place to be.
Mike, the landlord, is the kindest, and funniest guy you will ever meet. Our band (For The Hornets) travelled a round trip of around 9 hours to play here, and we were treated like royalty by all of the staff. It rubs off on all of the customers too, as complete outsiders we were made to feel like family.
The Bar: Extremely well stocked, with a huge range of craft beers, wines, and mainsteam lagers. My draft Peroni was ice clod and in a Peroni glass - they take pride in what they do. The whole place was spotless, including the loo's.
Playing as a band: As I mentioned we were treated like kings. We borrowed the house equipment (a god send for a travelling band) and it was all fantastic. Mike done the sound better than most professional sound engineers that we meet.
Epilogue: The following day I had a panic attack that I'd left some vital grear at the venue, and woke Mike up at silly 'o' clock in blind panic. He was calm and extremely helpful. I'm so grateful for this. My was head slightly sore from over-indulgence.... but my abs sore from laughing all night.
Absolutely incredible venue. Best in Stockport and Manchester. Would travel a long way out of my way to visit here...
Read moreOur first visit was during the Stockport Blues Festival, had a great day there, not a huge place but a good atmosphere for live music. Let down by the flimsy plastic cutlery you get with your pie & chips, for all of us it shattered into the meal when you used it and I cut my thumb. The other reason I've only given it 3 stars is the draught beer was foul. Stockport is unique in having its own independent brewery 'ROBINSONS' why weren't you promoting that ! I know tastes differ but 'Robbies' is a well established and popular ale. I hope you consider it. The festival was well organized and we shall certainly return next year and before that if we can get a decent pint, Chesters or canned Boddingtons would do. People have complained about difficulty in parking. A couple of side-streets along 'Station road & Railway Road you'll find the main precinct with a huge car park which is a short walk...
Read morePhoned the day before we wanted to go to check they were open on Thursday lunch time, 10.09.15. Mike advised they had not been opening over the school holidays as Stockport town centre had been very quiet but that he was happy to open if we wanted to come.
Went along with 2 colleagues and it did not disappoint. The eating/drinking area was very smart, clean and inviting. Mike was very friendly and accommodating. We had a couple of pints of lovely draught beer. While we were waiting for our meals, we decided to have a couple of locally-made pork pies as "starters". They were brought out, cut up into quarters, with sweet pickle, and were extremely tasty. Our mains were equally delicious - two different pasta dishes, freshly prepared. Clean plates all round.
Thanks for a lovely lunch, Mike. It was a pleasure to sample the delights of the...
