Visited here on a Sunday as a brand new customer. The interior is a bit dark and dingy as there are no windows anywhere and no natural lighting, but would be cosy I suppose in winter. I felt a bit claustrophobic.
The bar area looks nice and staff are pleasant. Drinks are very reasonably priced.
I ordered at the bar an adult Sunday Roast for £8.50. It arrived at my table in good time.
First observation is that the plate is on the small side but is fairly well loaded with food. The beef tasted nice and was mainly tender but had some gristle and fat around the edges of the slices. So some meat was left on the plate. I thought the beef portion size was only just adequate to be honest and that was disappointing. Please note the kitchen actually cooks roast joints of meat, so the meat does not come out of a pouch.
You get a number of veggies like carrots, brocolli and cauliflower and these tasted okay and the portions were good. There were also boiled potatoes which also tasted nice.
Another disappointment was with the single roast potato which tasted fatty with oil and not nice. But the Yorkie Pud tasted delicious. Please note all veggies are fresh and NOT frozen.
The star of the show was the gravy which was exceptional and I was lucky to have asked for an extra pot ( at no extra charge). It was delicious.
To sum up the Roast dinner was Good but NOT Excellent. At the price I guess it was okay. Meat portion was stingy though. There were quite a few diners having the Roast dinner so it is popular. Not sure yet whether I will return for more...
Read moreUPDATE. So, seems i cant do another review so I'll add on to this. Called here for breakfast today and it was delicious. We both had full english and my daughter omitted 3 ingredients from hers so she had extra mushrooms which she didnt ask for but loved ! Food was hot, nicely cooked and served with toast by a lovely young lady. My only gripe, if you can call it that was that my cup of tea was served and drunk before my breakfast arrived. Maybe better to serve it with. Will be back for another soon !
My friend and myself went here for lunch today. We both had the carvery, didn't realise it was slightly different and you order at the bar and it's brought to your table. It was really nice. Friend had turkey, I had beef and neither of us were disappointed, the meals were delicious. Food lovely, staff friendly , price good and a nice atmosphere. We noticed they do breakfast so we'll be back next week to try that. Thankyou for a...
Read moreWe arrived at The Lounge for some food and a drink before seeing a show at The Regent. Unfortunately there was no food this evening as there wasn't a show on at The Victoria Theatre over the road. ( i forgot to look on website) On seeing our disappointment, the kind man behind the bar ( I'm sorry I forgot to ask for his name) said I will see what I can find in the kitchen. He came back and said, "how about baked potatoes". He didn't have to ask twice. I had chilli and cheese filling, my wife had cheese and beans filling. Both came nicely presented with a fresh salad. They were perfect. The beer was spot on with alcohol free version for my wife. We always pay a visit here anyway when we see a show in Stoke. But the service and kindness today was certainly above and beyond expectations. Many thanks for your hospitality, we will be back when we see...
