First of all- I would like to start by saying that this is probably the worst pub i have ever been to. We arrived at 13.30 on a thursday afternoon, the pub wasn't busy and it initially looked like really nice and inviting pub. So we (my family of 4) decided to order a drink and have lunch. We ordered two chicken katsu burgers, one of the classic beef burgers and a fish and chips. Once again i emphasise that the pub wasn't busy. We got 3 of the 4 drinks instantly but had some problems with the beer since they where changing the barrel (which is understandable and we thought it wouldn't take too long) Half an hour later, there was still no beer so we asked, and they said the barrel was still being changed. We finally received the beer 40 minutes after ordering. We then shortly received a second beer which we assume was given to us as an accident. We waited over a whole hour after ordering our food, until it arrived (it was about 14:40 at this point). It was disappointing to say the least. The chicken katsu burger was so bad, a McDonald's mcchicken sandwich was good compared to it. Burnt bun and dry meat with basic toppings. Nothing special. The fish and chips was okay, nothing special, just like the average pub fish and chips. Same goes with the classic beef burger. The waiter gave us our food and took a while until we recieved cutlery, we only had one napkin for the whole table which was the cherry on top. We paid 60£ for a bad meal, with bad service and an uninviting ambiance. It was cold and dark inside and really lacked some life and warmth to it. I must admit that the staff tried their best, and seemed visibly stressed after multiple complaints from other families, but they should deal with them better and be more clear about the issues they are facing. They where clearly short staffed. In conclusion, I do not recommend. Bad food, expensive prices and bad,...
Read moreAs with pubs and social venues the Windmill is getting used to a very new way of doing business. Currently the pub is open for drinks, dine in and take away. There is no ordering from the bar and it is necessary to download the Greene King App to order food and drinks. Actually this works ok. You can book tables through the app but it doesn't tell you that it can't cope with booking for the same day. It offers you the date as a possibility but then will not complete the process. It just says ring the pub. I ordered a take away (scampi &chips with peas) one evening and was pleasantly surprised that the scampi and chips came in individual foil backed bags and the peas in a polystyrene cup with lid. This is the only take away that I have had where it was still piping hot when I got home. The next evening I ate in and used the app at the table to order. Drinks arrived in a couple of minutes and food some 10 minutes later. To summarise, the system works, the place is clean and regularly cleaned, food and drink arrive promptly and quality is fine. Food, where appropriate, is piping hot and staff are pleasant and attentive. Would I...
Read moreService was extremely slow, 35+ minutes for our order) but can somewhat understand as it was a bank holiday weekend so it was busy. However the food was a royal disappointment. My mum ordered the bao buns, of which were extremely dry and not at all the correct consistency of a bao bun. I ordered the steak - which was the biggest disappointment. They first brought me the wrong meal, which was a steak pie, so waited extra long for my food… but when they brought out my steak finally, I wasn’t sure it was steak. The texture was rubbery and gelatinous, it has a really gross aftertaste too. It didn’t taste like legitimate steak, as a result I only had about two or three pieces and had to forfeit my whole meal and fill up on the chips. By the time I got home I was cramping and had the worst gastro which one can only assume was from that steak. For being the most expensive food on the menu, I would’ve really hoped it was at least edible. No refunds or anything like that either despite not eating the meal. Hoping this isn’t how it always is as we were visiting as part of a road trip and was our first time in...
