We had the pleasure of making a reservation for a party of nine at Miller and Carter in Stratford, a decision influenced by a family member's commendation. Our initial impressions were favorable as we were seated promptly, and our assigned waiter conducted himself with courtesy, guiding us through the customary pre-meal formalities.
As the orders were placed, the waiter efficiently managed our requests. However, upon the arrival of our steaks, an observant member of our party noted a discrepancy in the pairing of sauces. This was a minor oversight that was quickly and amicably corrected by the waiter.
Despite this initial hiccup, our dining experience took a regrettable turn when, a quarter of the way into the meal, my 70-year-old grandmother discovered her steak was prepared rare rather than the requested medium well. Sensibly, we brought this to the attention of our waiter, who, in turn, sought the assistance of the manager.
To our disappointment, the manager opted to address the matter by instructing the waiter to retrieve the plate, a decision that left my grandmother without her main course for the remainder of our dining experience. This unexpected and seemingly inflexible resolution was disheartening, especially considering the alternatives that could have been explored.
Upon our request, the manager and waiter returned to our table to address concerns with two additional steaks. At this point, they acknowledged the lapses in service and extended an apology. In an attempt to ameliorate the situation, a complimentary dessert was offered, an offer we gracefully declined.
In an effort to rectify the situation, the manager assured us that the three incorrectly cooked steaks would be expunged from the final bill. However, upon scrutinizing the bill, it was evident that only partial adjustments had been made. The waiter clarified that he had adhered to the manager's instructions.
Seeking further clarification, we summoned the manager back to our table. To our dismay, he conveyed that, due to unforeseen constraints, he was unable to honor the initial commitment in its entirety. This lack of transparency and deviation from the agreed-upon resolution left us perplexed and dissatisfied.
In a surprising turn of events, the manager levied a baseless accusation, insinuating an attempt to defraud the restaurant on our part. Eager to dispel this claim, we implored the manager to review the restaurant's CCTV footage, which unequivocally refuted the allegations.
Despite our genuine efforts to resolve the matter amicably, the manager summarily informed us that we were barred from returning to the establishment. This abrupt and unwarranted decision left us with a deep sense of disappointment. Consequently, we settled the revised bill promptly, but regrettably, our experience at Miller and Carter fell significantly short of the standards one would expect from a reputed steakhouse, casting doubt on our likelihood of returning in the...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting service!!! Outrageous manager!!! lies!! Party of 9. Ordered 5 steaks with different sauces. Each cooked differently which is pretty normal in our opinion. The poor service started shortly after the main courses arrived, at this point the French waiter, pleasant enough, put the plates on the table but we noticed the sauces were not to what we ordered, he said no problem and swapped the sauces to the individuals who ordered relevant sauce. After a few cuts in, one of the family noticed the steak was rare, when we notified the waiter he went to get the manager, He came over from a distance and two of our family spotted him trying to look at the steak discreetly through a glass panel and say “go and take it away” the waiter then walked over and took the plate without a word!! We were shocked and two other guests noticed they had the wrong steak, they were a quarter into the steak before they noticed and went to get the manager again who came over and agreed to remove the 3 steaks from the bill and a free desert which we kindly declined as he was quite aggressive. We felt intimidated by his behaviour. it was the waiter who said the chef had put the wrong sauce on the plates so even if the plates were changed we would still have had the wrong steak. Then when we got the bill only one steak was removed. We questioned this and was told the manager had called the general manager on holiday and he said no. He accused us of swapping the steaks around and thats why we had the wrong steaks!!! One of the guests said no we didn’t and the manager said yes you did the waiter spotted you!! My son was outraged and I was in shock. It happened there was a cctv camera looking over the table so we told him to call the police and get the cctv and that we would not be paying for the steaks and he was rude. At this point he just walked off and didn’t come back, the waiter then came back with the bill with the steaks removed and we had no problem paying for 9 guests. The manager then came back over to us and said “you are not welcome here anymore”. Wow, I am a 71 year old with my 70 year old wife, my 48 year old son with his wife and 4 children. We regularly eat at the killer and carter in solihull and Shirley and never experienced anything like this. My wife was very upset and my son angry. We have told my other son who is also annoyed with the attitude and behaviour. We will never be visiting this restaurant again, in fact it has put us off completely with miller and carter. A very bad taste has been left with my family. We spent £180 and feel like we have been robbed. We will in future be spending our money at fiesta del asado, similar prices and I am sure they would be an awful lot more respectful if they make a mistake serving food and would certainly not ban a customer from coming to a restaurant for their mistake. Absolutely...
Read moreWe booked Miller & Carter via the app. It is one of our favourite chain restaurants but we hadn’t visited the Stratford Upon Avon one before. As always, we added the request for a quieter area & mentioned my autism on the booking form. When we arrived we were greeted & shown to a table in a secluded corner. The server checked that we were happy with the table, which we confirmed. We sat down & chose from their Thursday ‘Dates & Steak’ menu, which is currently available. (Check the website for latest menus!) This comprises of a three course set menu from £32.95. Our first two courses were; Burrata with beetroot and lovage pesto, which was delicious! We also had the Salt & Pepper Calamari with garlic and lemon aioli, which were nice & crisp on the outside & not at all chewy! Next we both had the ‘Steak Experience’. (Worth noting there is a veggie and vegan option on this menu) I chose the 30 day aged 8oz fillet (£8 supplement) & hubs had the 50 day aged Black Angus 8oz Sirloin. You then add a sauce, a wedge dressing (you get a wedge of iceberg lettuce in a bowl!) & a side. We both chose the same beef dripping sauce & Long Clawson Stilton & Blue Cheese dressing. I had fries & hubs had thick cut chunky chips (£1 supplement). The food arrived & both steaks were cooked to perfection (rare). For dessert I chose to go with a Disaronno Blush dessert cocktail instead as I was quite full. Hubs had the Lemon Tart (he started to eat it before I snapped a pic!). Both were delicious! We enjoyed the food & the ambiance of the restaurant & the service was great. The only issue I had as a ND person was for some reason they kept clanging a large bell. It happened several times during our visit & it was VERY loud. It made me have to put my Loops in my ears from the concern of it happening, as well as not knowing when it was going to happen. Just thought it was worth pointing out from my autistic perspective. We did enjoy our meal though, and noisy bell aside, would recommend it, especially for a date night! Our server Lily, was...
