I had a lovely day last Friday in Stratford, whilst there I visited Holy Trinity Church, partly to see where Shakespeare and some of his family members are buried. It's such a beautiful and interesting Church, very rich in history, the Clopton family have a Chapel, there you will see the memorial to Sir John Carew and his wife Joan Clopton who was a lady in waiting to Elizabeth I. There are the beautifully preserved Misericords, the South porch sanctuary knocker, amongst other objects to spot. Apart from it's beauty and serenity there are many volunteer staff around to answer any questions you may have. There is a small charge to enter the sanctuary where Shakespeare is buried but it's well worth it to help preserve such a beautiful Church. I sat for quite some time taking it all in. It really is one of the most beautiful Churches in the Country, don't forget the ancient church yard and grounds,. So well tended and preserved. Please do visit you won't be disappointed. We live in Warwickshire and we have visited this church on many previous occasions over the years. We called in again today, only to discover that we had to pay to see half of the church. We were unable to access the choir or altar without paying £5 each. Utterly disgraceful. We have recently visited the graves of King Richard iii in Leicester Cathedral, and King John and Prince Arthur in Worcester Cathedral, entirely free of charge. Those magnificent, ancient buildings will cost a great deal more to maintain than this small Trinity church. Their claim that the charge is purely for upkeep is utter rubbish. It is sheer greed; taking advantage of gullible tourists who go there to visit Shakespeare's grave. We witnessed several visitors refusing to pay and walking away. Usually, we make a donation and make a few purchases from the gift shop. Today we just left, and we won't be returning. Since when has it been acceptable to charge an entry fee to see...
