The restaurant was recommended to me, I have never heard of it before but I am a huge fan of Italian food and decided to give it a go. I ordered Classic Lasagna and my partner ordered nonna pizza and we were both so shocked how delicious the food was. I did not expect how tasty it will be, honestly the best Italian dishes I've ever had. I had tasted a bit of pasta off my family members plate and it was just amazing, completely blew me away. We will be definitely coming back, and I hope the staff will not lose their sense of humour! ;)

Fantastic authentic Italian restaurant in Sunderland overlooking the River Wear. We had cocktails on the balcony with great river views. Cocktail menu is extensive and exciting - I had my first burnt orange Serena! We were served by Caterina who was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. She made excellent recommendations for both my cocktail and my main course. The food is delicious. We will definitely return!

Party of 8. Rustic feel to the place with great views of river. Free on street parking and a little car park. Food was overall tasty, especially pizza, garlic breads, pasta and the sea bass- all good value for money. Prawns a bit over cooked as were the burgers. Service was excellent , friendly staff. The place used to be the boars head pub and sadly the toilets need a major upgrade, especially women's.

Decor and view from windows were beautiful. The cocktail menu itself is exquisite. Finely put together amazing flavours. The cocktails are actually devine, beautifully presented and not shy on the alcohol. So decor, view, music, staff, cocktails and drinks menu 10/10

Sunday roast verdict - can I just say I don't usually eat my mash on a roast I'm so not a fan however this may be the best mash I have tasted ever so thank you. The beef was beautifully cooked not dry at all, I weren't keen on the veg it had a funny aftertaste the broccoli and carrots and there wasn't much. Yorkshire and gravy were fab aswell 👌 7.5/10

The American Sniper burger was huge and was really tasty. Pulled pork and cheesy croquette. Served with skin on fries rated a good 8/10

Creme brulee for dessert. 😍 oh my. This was 10/10 no words. It was served with a chocolate sort of mouse/thick cream which was absolutely beautiful 😍

Overall 9/10 such a nice place I was pleasantly surprised for Sunderland. This has upped the game for SR dining. Thank you...

Went on a Monday night, very quiet, only 2 tables of 2 people when we went in, waiter was polite, Service was good as not a lot of people in, we ordered our food but was not told my main chicken dish you had to pay extra for side dishes, only when i asked what did it come with then he did say, you pay for sides dishes. I must say if your face is familiar then they do go out of their way to be extra nice, apparently owner came out to see a couple who were doing a video of there restaurant and was extremely polite, but failed to acknowledge his other customers. I have had better Italian food, not to my liking, Certainly won’t be in a hurry too go back, and if you going to give a customer a complimentary shot afterwards, give to...

Knowledge at The Boar's Head is a treat. Probably the finest restaurant in Sunderland and certainly a favourite over the whole Tyne and Wear area. The attentive service is always delightful and the stunning view of the Wearmouth bridge paints the city in a view not seen so often. The outside terrace overlooking the river is a must in summer.

Of the food, be sure to ask what's good, as there are often specials, then order the very slow cooked Genovese style ragu. We recently visited for a (shockingly) affordable five-course tasting menu with wine pairings that would have shamed so many more well known, and more expensive, places.

Do consider a visit, even if it's a little further afield than...
