Poetic License Bar — Restaurant in Sunderland

This place has gone right back. We sensed something different the minute we ordered our drinks. The cocktail menu has gone down from over 25 cocktails to around 5. In fact they dont have a menu the staff just reel off what is available. We ordered food wife ordered fish and chips i ordered chicken rogan josh on a skewer. While ordering food another guy took our order again for drinks, id only ordered 2 minutes previous. After about an hour or so the food came, fish and chips, no offer of condiments and what looked like a lamb kofta. I told barman thats not what i ordered. He apologised. After waiting another 20 mins i decided after my wife had finished her meal i didnt want to eat, pretty pointless when we wanted to eat together. I went to the bar to cancel it. But as i was waiting my food showed up so i felt obliged to eat it. It was revolting, a few pieces of chicken with onion, peppers and aubergine on a skewer with a few chips, some mango chutney and a bowl of salad. I expected at least some rogan josh sauce along the skewer, it was all so dry and totally unappetizing. I ate what i could but never enjoyed it all. Ive always recommended this place but im afraid i will never go back. We complained to assistant manager and he just sympathised and half agreed with us, no discount offered at all. I cant believe how an established place has gone back in such a short time....

Visited last week Ordered Gin & Tonic with ice and Lemon. Drink served with Grapefruit which I cant have for medical reasons. When I queried this I was told it comes with Grapefruit. Drink was changed under protest. Next drink came with Lime, when I queried this the barmaid took the Lime out with her fingers. Drink was changed under protest. Visited last night. Ordered Gin & Tonic and a bottle of Heineken 0.0. I was charged £9.10 When I queried this I was told I ordered a double, I sad I had ordered a single. I was then told no, I must have forgotten, I had ordered a double. I was made to feel like it was my fault. Under protest the drink was taken away and I was given the correct drink and told I could have a refund I then had to ask for my refund as all the bar staff dispersed. I don't like being talked to by a stroppy 20yr old when I'm out as if I've had one too many and being awkward.

Poor service. Bad attitudes. No courtesy. Long wait to be served. Not good , management need to take a look at staff training again and start treating their customers...

Went to this restaurant yesterday, it was very busy and staff were very polite, however the food was not good at all. We both ordered the “hanging kebabs”, lamb kofta and tandoori chicken. They came wrapped in tin foil which we had to remove (bit strange as it was very hot and could have burnt someone), they were covered in some sort of yoghurt which had split, so looked awful.

The Mediterranean roasted veg, consisted of a pieces of courgette on one end of skewer and a piece of aubergine at the other end. The meat on both Kebabs was tasteless and very dry, and they did not resemble the Greek / Indian flavours that they were supposed to have.

I also ordered a pitta bread @ £1.95, it came and it was a bog standard pitta from a supermarket that had been put in a toaster, it was dry and hard….horrible. When the bill came I refused to pay for the pitta.

It’s definitely overpriced for what you get and we won’t be going back.
