Vito's Osteria — Restaurant in Sunderland

A delicious meal, in lovely rustic, re-purposed building,cwith attentive staff sspoiled by GREED... the bill comes, it ain't cheap (which will be a challenge to sustain in the cold, wet, windy, winter months) and the establishment add a line below your itemised order that says "plus 10%"... no explanation, just pure GREED hoping as it's pricey anyway you will just pay for something you have no idea what it is.... The staff get a tiny % of that (in my case £10) so I refused to pay it, gave our waitress a tenner,cand will pass tge details on to trading standards. Do not accept GREED... don't pay their rip off add on... oh and yes that's our one and only visit unless they change their GREED inspired ways... update to response.... there is nothing on the bill that says this extra 10% goes to staff, or any mention of it being discretionary... your explanation that this extra 10% is to supplement staff wages doesn't look good... Tipping should be for the customer to decide, not...

We have been looking forward to visiting the Sheepfolds, hoping for a positive experience and have to say we weren’t disappointed! Our son decided on Vito’s to celebrate his birthday, excellent choice. There were 4 in our party and everyone was equally impressed with…well everything actually! From the moment we walked in the staff were attentive and welcoming, I wouldn’t like to single anyone out as they were all great. Food was so tasty and beautifully presented. A special “Happy Birthday” message to our son with his dessert (which was free!!) topped an already amazing night. Previous review has mentioned the 10% addition to the bill which I will say is completely discretionary and was pointed out by staff when we paid, we had absolutely no qualms about paying it in recognition of the exceptional service we received. Highly recommend and guarantee we will be back. Well...

We recently dined at Vito’s Osteria at the Sheepfolds, and while the venue itself is spectacular aesthetically, our experience was a bit mixed. The staff were impeccable in their hospitality, with Claire standing out as particularly outstanding. Her service truly elevated our evening.

The wine was delicious, adding a nice touch to the meal. However, we were slightly disappointed with the food. The portion sizes were smaller than expected, and while the dishes had taste, we were hoping for something a bit more spectacular, especially given the price.
